When the authors were asked to prepare a Second Edition of the book Titanium the first question was timing. It was agreed that the new edition should be ready for the 11th World Conference of Titanium (Ti-2007) in Kyoto. This is four years after the First Edition was presented at the Ti-2003 conference in Hamburg. F- ther, the authors decided to keep the structure and content of the First Edition completely unchanged with the exception of correcting a few obvious mistakes. The Preface to the First Edition decribes the motivation and intent of the book.

Extractive Metallurgy of Copper, Sixth Edition, expands on previous editions, including sections on orogenesis and copper mineralogy and new processes for efficiently recovering copper from ever-declining Cu-grade mineral deposits. The book evaluates processes for maintaining concentrate Cu grades from lower grade ores. Sections cover the recovery of critical byproducts (e.g., cesium), worker health and safety, automation as a safety tool, and the geopolitical forces that have moved copper metal production to Asia (especially China) and new smelting and refining processes.

Surface Engineering of Metals - Principles, Equipment, Technologies
592

Surface Engineering of Metals provides basic definitions of classical and modern surface treatments, addressing mechanisms of formation, microstructure, and properties of surface layers.

Part I outlines the fundamentals of surface engineering, presents the history of its development, and proposes a two-category classification of surface layers. Discussions include the basic potential and usable properties of superficial layers and coatings, explaining their concept, interaction with other properties, and the significance of these properties for proper selection and functioning.

Surface Engineering of Light Alloys - Aluminium, Magnesium and Titanium Alloys
672

The growing use of light alloys in industries such as aerospace, sports equipment and biomedical devices is driving research into surface engineering technologies to enhance their properties for the desired end use. Surface engineering of light alloys: Aluminium, magnesium and titanium alloys provides a comprehensive review of the latest technologies for modifying the surfaces of light alloys to improve their corrosion, wear and tribological properties.

Surface engineering can be defined as an enabling technology used in a wide range of industrial activities. Surface engineering was founded by detecting surface features which destroy most of pieces, e.g. abrasion, corrosion, fatigue, and disruption; then it was recognized, more than ever, that most technological advancements are constrained with surface requirements.

Phase Diagrams and Thermodynamic Modeling of Solutions provides readers with an understanding of thermodynamics and phase equilibria that is required to make full and efficient use of these tools. The book systematically discusses phase diagrams of all types, the thermodynamics behind them, their calculations from thermodynamic databases, and the structural models of solutions used in the development of these databases.

Phase diagrams are a MUST for materials scientists and engineers (MSEs). However, understanding phase diagrams is a difficult task for most MSEs.

The audience of this book are young MSEs who start learning phase diagrams and are supposed to become specialists and those who were trained in fields other than materials science and engineering but are involved in research and/or development of materials after they are employed. Ternary phase diagrams presented in Chapter 4 are far more complex than binary phase diagrams.
