If the damage is localized, sometimes the life of a structure can be extended by the use of fiber reinforced plastic wraps and other composite materials. These composite wraps were the primary theme of the April 2002 symposium, held at the Tokyo U. of Science. 

Thirty papers from the symposium address the repair of structures using composite wraps, the development and use of techniques for strain measurement and damage monitoring, and materials processing improvement.
