"Know, 0, Israel, the Lord thy God is One."

INTRODUCTION

Nothing is more important for mankind to realize than the oneness of everything. One - One - One! Oneness of God, oneness of man's relation, oneness of time, oneness of purpose, oneness of every effort - oneness - oneness! In application of the understanding already gained there comes the more perfect realization of the theory. For, though seemingly a vague concept, the oneness of all force is a basic and fundamental truth. As man in his everyday life applies his understanding of this truth, there results a more complete expression of the real self.

In the fall of an apple there was little other than may be experienced in any individual's life. Only Newton first saw that it applied to his relation with the universe and how it held the whole solution to a vast problem. Through the application of that known a great theory was gradually conceived. Just so will man come to the realization of the oneness of all force by the application of that already known. There is in each experience a law that may be reached through working the experience in terms of material application. (900-429)

THE FIRST CAUSE

"The manifestation of all power, force, motion, vibration, that which impels, that which detracts, is in its essence of one force, one source, in its elemental form. As to what has been done or accomplished by or through the activity of entities that have been delegated powers in activity is an-other story.

God, the first cause, the first principle, the first movement, IS! That is the beginning! That is, that was, that ever shall be! The following of those forces that are in accord with the Force or first cause, known as its Laws, is to be one with the source, or equal with yet separate from that first cause. In the beginning there was the force of attraction and the force that repelled. Hence, in man's consciousness he becomes aware of what is known as the atomic or cellular form of movement about which there begins nebulous activity. This is the lowest form (as man would designate) of active force in his experience. Yet this very movement that separates the forces in atomic influence is the first cause, or the manifestation of that called God in the material plane. As the nebulous activity gathers positive-negative forces in its movement, whether of one element or another, it becomes magnified in its force through the universe. Worlds, suns, stars, nebulae, and whole solar systems move from a first cause." (262-52)

The eternal question then arises, "What was or is the first cause of individual existence?" The first cause was, that the created would be the companion for the Creator; that is, the creature would - through its manifestations in the activity of that given unto the creature - show itself to be not only worthy of, but companionable to, the Creator. Hence, every form of life that man sees in a material world is an essence or manifestation of the Creator; not the Creator, but a manifestation of a first cause - and in its own sphere, its own consciousness of its activity in that place." (5753-1)

RELATIVITY OF FORCE

"There is, as was set in the beginning, as far as is the concern of this physical earth plane, those rules or laws in the relative force of those that govern the earth, and the beings of the earth plane. That same law governs the planets, stars, constellations, groups, and that constituting the sphere, the space, in which the bodies move. These laws are of one force, and we see the manifestation of the relation of one force with another in many various phases.

"Hence, we bring the word relativity of force to prove itself, for we have this condition: The earth in its motion is so held in space by that force of attraction, of detraction, that those things that do appear to have reality to the human mind, have in truth passed into past conditions before they reach the mind; for, with earth's laws and relation to other spheres, has to man become a past condition. In this, we see the law of the relations of conditions, space or time in relation to the human mind, as is capable of obtaining information upon the earth plane from a normal condition." Such relations can be fully realized only by the superconscious mind of an entity as it journeys on in its evolution from sphere to sphere. While in this material plane the important work lies in understanding the relative activity of laws pertaining to this plane. (3744-4)

As is well known but little understood, the most recent advances in chemistry and physics point directly to a oneness of all force through a definite relation between all forms of matter and force. It has been stated by many eminent authorities that forms of matter differ only in atomic construction and forces only in degree of movement. "Because an atom, a matter, a form, is changed does not mean that the essence, the source or the spirit of it has changed; only in its form of manifestation, and not in its relation with the first cause." (5753-1)

One often hears the expression, "gods of the Universe." An explanation of this term will further clarify the laws relating to our earth. "All force has its incentive. It must be created and directed. To the human mind many of the laws or individual forces give expression to that which is referred to as the `god of war', the `god of peace', etc." (3744- 4) The Creator has set certain bounds or guards about the various manifestations which to man's consciousness appear as separate forces. As such laws (guards) remain true to the Divine Will, they appear to men to be of the One source; as they, through the activity upon them of entities' wills, rebel against Divine Law, they appear to be of some other source and thus confuse men's minds. All force has but one original source.

Even in considering what men call good and evil forces, we are able to understand the relative position of each. “In the beginning of the celestial beings we have first the Son, then the other sons or celestial beings that are given force and power. That force which rebelled in the unseen forces (or spirit) that came into activity, was that influence which has been called Satan, the Devil, the Serpent. They are one - that of rebellion! When man in any activity rebels against the influences of good he harkens to the influences of evil. Will is given to man as he comes into this manifested form that we see in material forces, for the choice is giver, "There is set before thee (man) good and evil." Evil is rebellion. Good is the Son of Life, of Light, of Truth; who came into physical being to demonstrate and show and lead the way for man's ascent to the power of good over evil in a material world. As there is, then, a personal Savior, there is the personal Devil. When there is delegated power to a body that comes from the infinite into the finite, the unseen into the seen, the activity is life. The will of such a body is of the force giving it existence. As to what it does with or about its associations with the source of its activity, as to how far it may go afield, depends upon how high it has attained in its ability to throw off both negative and positive forces. Then, that which has been separated into the influence to become a body, whether celestial, terrestrial, or plain clay manifested into activity as man, becomes good or bad. The results to the body so acting are dependent and interdependent upon what it does with the knowledge of that source of activity." (262-52)

"Whether separated into the mystic's force of .undulating wave links, or into the chemist's vision of atomic force in alchemy or chemistry, or whether of the engineer's division of power as in the forces as may be applied in the breaking up or changing of the elements in their activity, whether as of the fourth dimensional force of electrical combustion or of that of the gaseous explosion or of the steam's condensing, in each activity there is that same wave activity as seen in the continuity of the soul's expansion to meet the needs of that sphere in which it finds itself seeking expression; for, as they may be directed, so may the soul seek that it has created in its activities in whatever sphere its activity finds expression. Law and love are one, even as the forces in nature are one - as is necessary for the budding of the acorn or the flowering of the rose, each seeking through that phase of its position given in nature or this sphere to express that appreciation of the gift of its Creator. Only man abuses that given. How great then may be his estate! How low may he sink through the non-application of that first law of, ‘Thou shalt have no other God before me.’" (900-428)

The terms `psychic force' and `occult force' are often confusing. "In the truest sense, `psychic' means the expression to the material world of the latent, or hidden sense of the soul and spirit forces, whether manifested from behind, or in and through the material plane." (3744-1) `Occult' forces are the channels through which the soul forces manifest. "One is the study of the other. One is the essence of the sources, and the other the channels through which, of which, the study." (262-20) "While occultism and mysticism may bring strength in the measure where self may apply same, yet, self must be so grounded as not to be disturbed to the point of destruction. While the influences of the occult and the mysterious in nature, in the universe, in universal forces, are wonderful in their magnitude and in those elements that make up material or human experience, yet, thereoft partakes so much of that in the material plane as termed fanatical, that unless one is well grounded self is lost in the maze of experience. Grounded in that of truth in self, and relationship of the Creative Energy with the application of the truth in human experience brings the understanding that enables one to impart to others the strength of the self as pertaining to such experiences." (307-1)

In turning to another phase of the relative activity of forces, let us consider the human body. "In the body of a living, physical being, we have a body made up of many atoms, and their relations to one another depend upon the force as is given in each part to work upon, or in, or through the system. In the nerve system we find that of the force of physical matter or subconscious or soul matter, or superconscious or spirit matter, all receiving a force, as may be illustrated in this: When an injury comes to a portion of the body, the nerves transmit first an urge to move; then, the forces of all the elements of other parts of the body are brought into play, that which carries, (the blood); that which replenishes, (the corpuscles); that which stimulates the building of new cells, (the glands); etc. In simpler terms, the Divine force expresses its activity through the various forms of manifestation. From our conscious standpoint we must consider the relative action as manifests through what we call position, space-time." (3744-2)

Another very important manifestation of force is mind. Here, again, man is prone to lose sight of the oneness, for mental activity seems to take so many forms and emanate from so many sources. In our age of science, where everything is put to the test of close inspection and examination, it has been found rather difficult to make the advances in studies of mental faculties such as have been made in other more material sciences. Perhaps, the simplest illustration of the oneness of mental forces can be given by drawing upon what we know of our own conscious activities. We know that we can build two mental pictures which will differ completely one from the other, yet, they are certainly creations of the same mind. One picture may deal with something alive, may be full of movement, while the other may be composed of inert matter. Thus, it is that God expresses Himself in one force that is alive and active, that can build and work, while in another force He also manifests, but seemingly in a completely different form. One force is the builder, the other the material; one is the carrier, the other the cellular matter. In essence, all is one.

"The mind may be classified into two forces - that between the physical and soul, and that between the soul and spirit force. We see the manifestations of these rather than the minds themselves." (3744-1) We call these the conscious mind and superconscious mind. They are but expressions of the same force appearing as different projections because of their relative positions in time and space.

"This one element is the substance of all space, and holds all of its formations, or things, or worlds, in place inside of itself, as a trunk of a tree holds all branches in place as different formations or parts of its own self. The higher dimensional kind of mind would recognize life in this one elemental state in its entirety. This would be the viewpoint of the Creator's mind. (New Tomorrow, No. 1, page 18)

"The mind of God embraces the one total life energy with its universally evolved portion called mind, in all of its forms, all of its stages of development, and all of its self- conscious individual viewpoints, including ourselves; yet, while in physical form we possess not the Creator's kind of mind, but rather the kind that mind becomes in physically created form." (New Tomorrow, No. 2, page 11) We have a creative mind, but it is limited in physical manifestation.

"God, then, as distinguished from ourselves, is this one elemental life essence, spirit, creative energy, elan vital, or whatever we may call it, with its portion called mind, which latter includes not only our created form of mind, or three-dimensional self- conscious viewpoints, but also in addition, higher than physical, three-dimensional, self-conscious view-points; fourth and higher-dimensional, developed and developing self- conscious viewpoints." (New Tomorrow, No. 2, page 11)

"We may understand that we are a self-conscious viewpoint possessed by the One God - are that which God is, capable of doing that which God does; yet, God, the Father, is not only our individual self, but incorporates each and every progressive individual self into one complete whole." SELF IN RELATION TO ALL FORCE

In the study of ourselves in relation to the Whole lies the awakening of the inner man to a full consciousness of our respective part which we must play in the scheme of creation. Here again man is baffled by what seems to be a great division of force. This is due to the limitations of the conscious faculties by space-time. Yet, there is open to every individual a door through which he may pass to obtain a new vision. This door leads to the inner self. "We must, in spite of our three-dimensional, finite, physical viewpoints, understand the inner, infinite, higher-dimensional experiences that the inner subconscious mind may be induced to bring through imagination into our consciousness, but which visioning, hunches, premonitive or intuitive thoughts, experiences, or spontaneous ideas we will fail to understand, unless we know something of the logic or the higher-dimensional viewpoint." (New Tomorrow, No. 1, page 16)

"Not only one element, but every element in a universal force has its effect upon the various phenomena of life in the action of an individual entity in its relationship to the whole. Hence, we find this prerogative: That while we are apparently reasoning from and through an heterogeneous mass, yet, that one factor of the inner force or spark of the entity's association, or the entity's relative force from the first or from the universal cause of creation, has its activity throughout. This should be understood that it may be applied in the phenomena of life." This is to say that regardless of the seeming complexity of existence in this plane, the original impulse which gave the soul its being will manifest and dominate throughout any experience if given the opportunity of expression. (900- 359)

"In the greater or lesser degree this same universal force as is applied in this sense is the same way and manner in which ideas or ideals of an individual respond to the various conditions as may be presented to him through the various forms of that called the experience or phenomenon of life. Man, from the purely material sense, only becomes conscious through the sensuousness, or through the five senses. Yet, ever is that sixth, seventh, or eighth sense of the entity alert to the various responses as received by the inner self through the various experiences of life. We find in many various phases of same these - taken as an oneness - become, as it were, branches or lines of study sought out by individuals and classified as the keynote; yet, no one is superior to the other in its influence upon the individual life, save as to what the individual's development or attunement is - through its experiences - to those phases of the same thing. Hence, we find one may say that all sensuousness of an individual only comes through hearing, seeing, feeling, or experiencing as a whole. Another may say only that sense of inner self-preservation, as an individual, is the keynote of experience of life; however, in this very example as has been set, we find this disproves that any one may be the whole; but, all are a part of, a portion of, the whole. Dependent, then, upon the individual development as to what the response may be, whether as to self-preservation, self-propagation, or self-expression of sensuousness, in making self big in mind or in the various expressions of sensuous experience." (900-359)

"This shows the necessity of that development of the soul to the awareness of the ability to apply with self's own soul force those energies of the cosmic forces, that these combined in their efforts may bring about the awareness of the physical body to the conditions existent in life in its varied or changed forms, and as to how same may be applied in the material way and manner to the advancement of self in the fuller sense. Not abused, not dis-used but applied in the way that the forces of self find an atonement with the Universal Forces; thus the ability to apply same in the way and manner as has been shown by Him, who gave, `Yet those come after me who shall do even greater things then I,' for the ways. are not past understanding. It is only necessary that one apply that knowledge gained in any direction to make self applicable to greater laws pertaining to conditions in that same direction; yet, all these must be kept as one, even as is shown in the vision or in the experience that all of the forces use their channels to bring about manifestation of one nature." (900-362)

"Often when the activity of the First Cause comes into man's experience the present realm, he becomes confused in that he appears to have an influence in directing this force or power. Certainly! Much, though, in the manner as the reflection of light in a mirror. For, it is only reflected force that many may have upon those forces that show themselves in the activities, in whatever realm into which man may be delving in the moment - whether of the nebulae, the gaseous, or the elements that have gathered together in their activity throughout that man has chosen to call time, or space, becoming in its very movement, of that of which the First Cause takes thought in a finite existence or consciousness. As man applies himself, or uses that of which he becomes conscious in the correct sphere or realm, he becomes conscious of that union of infinite and finite force. In the fruits of the spirit does man become aware of the infinite penetrating, or interpenetrating the activities of all forces of matter, or that which is a manifestation of the realm of the infinite into the finite. Thus may the finite become of this oneness.

"In reaching this understanding and state of consciousness, it is well to remember that, through self, man will understand his Maker, when he understands his relation to his Maker - each and every person getting that understanding have their individual niche, place, and work to perform. The understanding for the individual entity, viewed from its own stand-point, with its knowledge, is obtained and made ready by itself, to be manifested through itself, toward its own development, and in that development of the creation or world." (262-52)

CONCLUSION

We have arrived at a few conclusions which may be stated briefly as follows: All force is of one original source. The division of force which seems so evident is due to two conditions: First, the rebellion of beings against Creative will, both in and outside of this material plane, yet, having influence through and upon entities passing through this plane (the earth): second, the limitations of the conscious faculties in this material world. It is possible for man to attain a realization of this oneness, in fact, highly desirable that he do so, through a developed expression of the creative force within. This can best be attained through a study of self.

Finally, let us consider the principal law which must be an individual's guide in an attempt to understand himself in relation to the One Force. "Like begets like. Being of God, let us seek ever to fully and completely express His presence within us. Give, then, more thought to acting like His children, His creations. "For thoughts are deeds, and the children of the relation to spirit and soul's plane of existence, as they do in the physical or earth plane. What one thinks continually, they become; what one cherishes in their heart and mind they make a part of the pulsation of their heart, through their own blood cells, and build in their own physical, that which its spirit and soul must feed upon, and that with which it will be possessed, when it passes into the realm for which the other experiences of what it has gained here in the physical plane, must be used. The attributes of the soul and spirit are as many, and as many more, as the attributes of the physical or mental mind." (3744-4) It is not hard for an individual to awaken them if he will seek diligently. As has been pointed out, only the will may keep an entity from a realization of the Divine Unity, for, "Each, in itself, through its development known through the ages, as called from the earth plane, builds that which is manifest upon the earth. With each development, that force, known upon this plane as Will, is given to man over and above all creation; that force that may separate itself from its Maker, for with the will man may either adhere to or contradict Divine Law - these immutable laws, as are set between the Creator and the created." (3744-4)

"Hence, man, the crowning of all manifestations in a material world - a causation world - finds self as the cause and the product of that he (man), with those abilities given, has been able to produce, or demonstrate, or manifest, from that he (the soul) has gained, does gain, in the transition, the change, the going toward that (being of that) from which he came." "Like begets like. As he sows, so shall he reap. As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. These are but trite statements to most of us, but let each of us turn within our own beings for the law pertaining to these trite sayings, until understanding arises. Then, there will come a consciousness of the infinite moving upon and in the inner self. So does life, in all its force, begin in the earth from one source. It is the moving of the infinite upon the negative force of the finite in the material that can bring a consciousness of the oneness even in seemingly diversified manifested force." (262-52)

For how hath it been given to those that seek to know the Lord? Thy God is ONE! Look not for those who may bring a message from abroad, or those who may descend from the heavens to bring word again, but rather into thine own heart. For THERE He hath promised to meet all.

For, know the law - "Know, O Israel, the Lord thy God is one!" and that every form of manifestation, of expression of the spirit of a time, of a place, of a condition, or an individual, of a group, of a county, of a nation, IS the attempt of that individual group or nation to give expression of self or its God.

For know in self all that has happened, all that may happen in thy experience in the earth is a an opportunity that ye may know the Lord thy God is one Lord. For he hath not willed that any soul should perish, and thus again and again comes that opportunity. Know that so long as there is life - life - the material manifestation of that ye worship as the Lord thy God, this will be true.

For it is in Him that ye live and love and have thy being. That know. And the other urges, these have been what? Yourself, as an entity, as a soul-entity; made in the beginning as the breath of God to be a companion with Him throughout eternity.

(A) Again would we give the greater basis that that which may be given as warning that this will rise and that will fall. God ever gives the increase. For, when the purposes in life - and the desires of the heart and the mind, soul and body - are made in accord, "all these things shall be added unto you." What was the variation in that Abraham gave from the rest of the world? That the Lord thy God is One? The Lord thy God is ONE in thee! Thy mind, thy soul, thy body being one in purpose, in aim, in desire, He will lead thee in the ways that He will open - even the oneness of heaven, to pour into thine understanding that which will bring the greatest development of thy soul. Put not thy trust in things that are of the earth earthy, but rather in the promises that are sure, that He gives that necessary day by day; and as to whether ye shall sell or invest, whether ye shall trade or whether ye shall gather more and more, this will be shown thee - for thou art sensitive in thine self! Ye have received them rather as hunches, but "Inasmuch as ye do it unto the least, ye do it unto me." And He will show thee the way.

This then the entity will do, as it applies itself in its abilities as the writer, as the interpreter of those forces which have impelled men and women in the varied climes, in the varied environs - whether it be from the waters of the Ganges, or from the holy rocks of Horeb, or from the desert sands of Arabia or Egypt.

These - their intent and purpose - are one. For, Know, O [2067], the Lord thy God is ONE!

Would that all souls could, would, comprehend that great, great sentence which has been, is, the motivating force in ALL who seek! not in all who impel, but in all who SEEK to live, who SEEK to manifest, who SEEK to give expression of God's force or power.
 

For, as all power is ordained of Him, so acknowledge same in thy expressions of that which brings faith and hope and brotherly love and kindness. For these are the fruits of the spirit of truth - that take hold upon, and bring one into, the chamber - into the holy of holies; where He makes Himself known, even to His brethren, as He did in those lands so long ago, with which ye were so closely associated or affiliated!

Soul

Remain faithful, therefore, unto the end; gaining those joys through daily acts of selflessness for and with others, remembering that in these manifestations they (and all souls) become knit one with the other.

For while the body changes, for it - too - must be purified, the SOUL remains ever as one. For it is in the image of the Creator and has its birthright in Him. And if this birthright is sold for the satisfying of those urges of earthly desires, they become stumblingblocks in the experience and thus the entity finds itself constantly in each and every environ meeting itself, either mentally, materially, physically, in the environs and in the experiences which are a portion of each and every soul.

For, all are one. Would that all souls would gain that concept, "Know that the Lord thy God is ONE!" Each soul is a part of thine own, in Father-God; hence ye ARE thy brother's keeper.

These the entity visions, these the entity feels; yet to make manifest in the LITTLE things day by day, in its dealings with its fellow men, in sowing the seeds of the spirit of truth, is the manner in which ye manifest patience and thus possess your soul, - as in brotherly love, in kindness. As ye show yourself friendly, ye have friends. For with what measure ye mete, it will indeed be measured to thee again. For ye are constantly meeting thyself (as is each soul), in thy experiences with thy fellow men. Thus ye bring into the activity in the earth the joy of the Lord, or the sorrow of the LAW that killeth; for it is the spirit of same that maketh alive.

We find in Saturn the great changes in those environs or surroundings, as also in tenets to which the entity may turn and has turned its attention from time to time. Thus in patience and persistence, do ye learn and become aware of thy soul being as one with God.

Life

As to the appearances in the earth, - we find that these express more through the emotions. As has been and is the fact, life - or consciousness - is all one. Thus, though it may be expressed in varied terms, though it may respond to a different experience or phase of the same entity's consciousness, it is one.

And all positions that may come, all opportunities that are thine, are as a LENDING of the divine forces, - as is the prompting of thy guidance, for the opportunity of giving praise and glory to Him.

For the experiences in each sojourn are short, yet all are one; and being absent from the body is to be present with that thou hast builded, created or held to as thy God.

What do YE worship? The living God, or the temporal forces and influences?

These ye must choose, - these ye must determine in thine own experience.

Yet if we learn more and more that separations are only walking through the rooms as it were of God's house, we become - in these separations, in these experiences - aware of what is meant by that which has been and is the law, as from the beginning; "Know O ye peoples, the Lord thy God is ONE!"

And ye must be one - one with another, one with Him - if ye would be, as indeed ye are, corpuscles in the LIFE FLOW of thy Redeemer!

And O that men everywhere would seek to know not their differences, but their unison of thought, their unison of purpose, for their AIDING, their helping, their understanding of the needs of others - that all are as One!

For as has been gained by those that have understood and that through those periods have applied such, "Know, O Man, know O ye sons of Man, the Lord thy God is ONE!" And all good, all hope, all mercy, all purpose of DIVINE flows from Love itself; that He would have man in his former estate, knowing himself to be one with Him yet individual, capable of making those influences upon, those influences roundabout, that make known the joy of LOVE - that law is love, love is law to all, as it expresses itself.

For ALL force, all power that is manifested in a material world can and only does come from that universal force, that creative energy we worship as God; that which we may renew in its proper associations, its proper activities and relations to self, that which not only builds a physical body, that builds a strong determination for a usefulness in thine own mental body, but makes for that beauty in the soul development that will bear thee up in thy periods of destructive influences that come. The shadows and thy fears that make men afraid will be cast away, for "If ye will be my children, I will be your God" has been the promise to all. (A) That as is the experience must be met in the activity of that soul, that is an INDIVIDUALITY, that may be one WITH God yet NOT God - yet one WITH Him in its individuality. Hence, as the Son of man - made in the flesh - in Adam brought sin, or separation from God - in the last Adam, the Christ, brought that AT-ONEMENT WITH God. So does this, then, make the at-onement with those that, as He, make themselves - through Him - in the same activity, the same at- onement, WITH Him.

Then, in making at-onement, the will of an entity, an individual, is made one with the Creative influences in the experience.

(Q) Will a study of Christian Science by Mrs. Eddy be more effective than medicines?

(A) Rather use each in its own sphere. As the body understands, we have a body-physical, we have a body-mental, we have a body-spiritual. They are one, yet each has its attributes that function either separately or coordinantly. The active force in all of these is of the spiritual nature; but release same within each sphere, so that the spiritual forces may function - not so much by the use of drugs, but rather those stimulations as indicated that may only aid the impulse for the activity of the creative energies and forces through the system.

All healing is one, whether in the laying on of hands, by word of mouth, by mechanotherapy, mechanical applications or what not. GOD is the Creative Force that gives life - and not the medicine or the application!

(Q) In the reading of June 3rd [137-79], it says my mental condition is paramount. Explain this in the light of how I may help my physical ailment i.e., the impurities in my blood and urine.

(A) The explanation in this is as this: In every physical being, the whole body is made up of the atomic forces of the system, with the mind of each atom, as it is builded, supervised by the whole mental mind of the body, varied by its different phases and attributes, for, as is seen in its analyses, an atom of the body is a whole universe in itself, in the minutest state. The attitude, then, of all the attributes of the mind toward self, and the forces as manifest through same, become then paramount. As to any healing in a body, or ANY APPLICATION of any source, nature, character, kind, or condition, is only to create that incentive IN that same atomic force to create the better condition in a body, whether it be medicinal properties, whether it be of manipulation to induce incentive reaction, whether it be of an operative nature, or what not, is to create that same condition in the atomic forces of the body to bring about the better physical conditions in the system.

Then, necessarily, it is paramount. How to go about to apply same? May

be through self and self's attitude towards those conditions which are of the physical and spiritual natures in an individual, and to this individual especially.

Lie prone, or almost so, when it is used; and not let the mind run hither or yon, but let the mind be rather in the constructive way and manner. Not palliatives, but healing that is sincere - of whatever nature, whether

Construction and constructive influences can only emanate from GOOD. GOOD can only emanate from God.

(A) This becomes dependent entirely upon the condition, the state, the cause, and the manner in which it is applied.

Remember, each soul is almost a law unto itself.

Remember, all active forces are creative. Hence they are of Life or God (the ocean elements); thus they are curative or helpful, applied properly.

Misapplied, they become as knowledge - an abuse of the gift of God; thus error, disease - dis-ease and then disease.

(Q) How is the best way to use it for these conditions?

(A) This would depend upon the state, upon the environ and upon many different things.

There is no cure-all except being in attune with the Infinite.

(A) Read the information which has been given to thee through this channel. As given, these are a reverse of those as they are mentioned. It is not that a soul AS a body is in an environment that it lives upon a planet as one does in the earth, but that the consciousness which is befitting to the environ of the planet is in that environ, see?

The occupation, as may be said, upon the Jupiterian plane could not of its nature be the same as that upon Venus, Mars, Neptune, Uranus, Earth, Mercury, Moon, Sun, or any of those. But each has its relative relationship to consciousness in its activity. Hence the sages of old, in the Persian, the Egyptian, the Indian, GAVE names then to the planetary influences according to that which to them appeared AS environmental! It would be much as saying how it was that the animal kingdom in its various divisions received names in the earth. How? These do not mean the same in the varied spheres, but their activity is such that names - as has been given - so confine that they make confusion; for names are setting metes and bounds - and to this edge and to that edge, which DOES NOT exist! any more than time, space or all - WHEN you consider that the SOUL is OF and THROUGH and part and portion of the all, see?

Hence in its environ, in its activity, and from a little period in the earth, in man's seeking he finds an awareness in materiality, with all of those names or influences that have been named - each expressing an influence or an attitude or an environ or a sphere of consciousness. These are merely names, but they are ONE, see?

Then these activities in various spheres are meeting, as in self, the needs for its SOUL-SAVING. For remember, these should not be forgotten, and that they should be compatible; for these are IMMUTABLE. "Like begets like." That sown in spirit, in mind, in materiality, must be reaped BY that soul in whatever sphere it is sown. The preparation of same in the mental, as the builder, makes for the various influences and forces.

God IS, Spirit IS; the Soul IS an individualized portion that may materialize, that may become conscious as a companion for that which is, that I AM THAT I AM in ALL its spheres! And all spheres of activity in the earth, in the realms of WHATEVER environ, are for that preparation. That man may control in the earth a few of its influences is so infinitesimal to what eternity is, or to what space or time or any of the universal forces are, that the finite mind does not conceive.

(Body and enquiring mind. You will give an explanatory reading on the mental, material and spiritual development based on reading of April 7, 1937, [257-181], with reference to [257] and associates and associations and the further development of the plant to be in position to make radio cabinets. We respectfully submit our mental-physical and spiritual for guidance of the Forces to ask for aid, since [257] is now correlating all of his readings which covered a period of many years and will ask the Forces to specifically guide the group as to what definite information he should remember at this time in attempting to reorganize his life, his business and the welfare of those around him.    1. This would indicate, from the questioner, that there is a difference in being a material success and in developing spiritually and mentally in a material way. The question itself is based improperly.

      For, as has been given, to gain the whole world and lose the own spiritual self or soul is naught.

      Then, the policies, the activities, in every way and manner, must be in keeping with that which is constructive, that which is activative in that way and manner, if there would be a mental, a spiritual, a material success.

      To be sure, there may be material successes in sharp practices; there may be material successes in taking advantage of one another in varied activities; but - the Lord thy God is ONE! and this applies in business, in mental, in the spiritual life, and should be construed so - and they that attempt to make them separate do so to their own mental and spiritual undoing, and sooner or later a material and mental failure.
       

5. (Q) In what way, so far, has his ego prevented the proposition from progressing to the point that his will desires it to reach?

   1. It has not! The warnings that have been given were not to allow the anxiety, the desire, to make for the allowing of improper or unseeming promises, or for the depending upon purely material things for gain - without the proper consideration of all phases of life.

      Here: In the experiences of those in a material world where financial gain is had, where fame to an extent is given to individuals, it is oft seen that they are not at peace with themselves, with their fellows or with their God. There may not be outwardly in the individual experience failures financially, or other than a whitewashing of the mental individual activity, yet there is oft seen in such

      households that which has been expressed in this manner: "Yes, their money is needed to care for that afflicted one, that disconcerted one in their midst."

      God is not mocked; whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

      And, as has been given [257] oft, too gracious, too beautiful, too sincere has been and is the INNATE desire of this entity to be spoiled by the desire of material gain or fame at this time.

      Hence the warnings - Know, O Israel, the Lord thy God is ONE!

      If each soul would understand what that means, he may pattern his life, his associations, his dealings with his fellow man, in such a way and manner as to make not only harmony and peace within his own home, his own mind, but all who contact the body-entity will know same for the beauty of his dealings with his fellow man in every way and manner.

      Man should learn - [257] should learn - it is God that giveth the increase. Man as he labors, as has been given of old, is worthy of his hire. To take advantage, then, of an employee because of circumstance, because of surroundings - or for the employee to take advantage of the employer because of any condition that arises - must be met in the experience of them all.

      For it is the law; and the law shall not pass away until it is fulfilled to every whit and every tittle in the experiences of each individual!

      Hence the warnings given, that there be the building within self of that as would be not merely an axiom but as a living experience.

      For the Lord thy God is a living God. Man's soul, man's activity, is a living experience. Begin to build constructively in the beginning, if you would have the success in all phases of the endeavor.
       

6. (Q) In what way could the activities of the body [257] and associates in relation to the factory be evil?

   1. These questions are out of line with what was meant. This has just been given. To do wrong never will make good come of it, though it may make money and means and false promises may induce; but the end thereof is DEATH! Death not only to a successful business, death to the better self, death to all the influences and forces. For how has it been reckoned? Good is like a leaven that eventually leaveneth the whole lump. How is evil? Usually smeared on as some kinds of paints that cover and yet - How did He put it? - are as a whitened sepulchre, beautiful to look at but inwardly full of dead men's bones! So are the relationships with individuals. You cannot whitewash that which is in import and intent evil and have good come from same.
       

7. (Q) If [165] placed in charge of laboratory and finish - Gilbert in charge of coordinating of departments as well as comptroller - Kiefer in charge as superintendent of construction - with [257] in charge of sales plus advisory to the other three, would the factory proposition then be able to function on an ethical, profitable and proper spiritual development with material gain?

   1. This has been given. This has been given before, that these were - and let each know, but let each have the basic principle.

In the activities of selling below that in which it would be produced or could be produced, would that make for success? or if the finishing or the construction would be neglected here or there, that's not in keeping with that which has been

promised, would it lend for that which is to be a constructive or building or a rightful program? No.

All cooperating as one with another, they each in their own sphere filling, fulfilling that purpose whereunto the whole association or organization was brought into being. Is it brought into being to undersell or to equal or to be a little better than another product, at a little better figure? But if it is to be done by imposition upon any portion of the service, then it cannot succeed. But all in one - as God is One.

It is not idealistic, it is what and is as the world is (gradually, to be true) coming to know must be - if the life, the purpose of each and every soul is to make a mental and material and spiritual success - cooperation, coordination of all factors in a purpose for service - and the increase and the surplus is the gift of appreciation as is the law….
 

1. (Q) The following people in their spheres are attempting to furnish the money merely from the material standpoint, of investment for gain:

   1. (Interrupting) Use that which has already been promised. This is coming through, it's in more than one of these but it is coming through! But do not make any promises - as has been the warning - that cannot, that are not in keeping with that policy that has been indicated, that is necessary for perfect coordination throughout.

   1. That each may have the opportunity for joining in a service that may be made as a criterion for others that would take lessons from same. It's an opportunity, then, for all….

   1.       What, who and where have been the customers that would justify such a group considering building a plant for the manufacture of such goods? Bad finish, faulty in some of the activities, too small a price; and such things have brought about contentions. Now: There has been a certain quantity, there is demanded certain quality in those channels that are open or accessible to [257] as the salesman. Now the warning has been given [257] - don't confuse these, please - that there are associations that could and would build these cabinets if they were considered properly. If [257] considers, though, that having the own factory all of the varied elements that have entered into his dissension, confusion and disturbance, can be ironed out by the own organization and still do justice and right to every ONE, then follow same! But each one, each head of each phase must take all of these things into consideration before they BEGIN - and know that they can do justice to themselves, their ideals, their purposes; and it is upon such that figures may be drawn to present those from whom funds may be obtained to carry on.

      Why not obtain quantities of same from the very ones TO WHOM THE MATERIAL IS TO BE SOLD?
       

4. (Q) In showing the pitfalls to the associates, does that mean that they should not consider owning or controlling the plant but just handling the sales or using the factory on a rental basis?

   1. In showing the pitfalls is meant that being forewarned is being forearmed, and if there are the correct abilities, if there is the ability of each head to make for corrective principles that will meet each one of these, why should they not own, why should they not control, why should they not direct? On the basis of others that was given that there were associates and connections that would do so for [257], if they were set in a different order! Don't confuse these, please!
       

5. (Q) Are there any changes in any part of the country that would cause a large furniture factory to take radio cabinet business from such companies as the General Electric Co. on a commission basis and yet bring profit to the associates as to commissions? Or is it necessary for the group to have a factory over which they have complete control of the supply?

   1. And that's why they should be, if it is possible, a part of the factory!

      This may be an eventual development. [257] has experienced this in some associations; that factories have gone in and taken commissions rather than paying same to the man (or [257]) acting as the intermediator or for the bringing of the factory and the user (or the General Electric) together.

      Now: If there is the assurance from the group that the users of cabinets are interested in, or a part of, or are so convinced that the organization can produce - and the organization CAN produce if fitted for it - then why not make it successful?
       

6. (Q) Are conditions of the country now such that Labor will become stabilized on a working basis with Capital to advise the owning of a factory to be operated by this group?

   1. Principles must carry through to the laboring man, whether it is the one that is selling the log, or the man that is the rough finisher, or he that sweeps up the floor! Don't think that the man at the top can take it off of or out of the lives of the laborers and get away with it! He can't!

      Conditions are such that when honesty is carried through, it is in the position to coordinate and cooperate all the way through. THAT is the CRY of the country. It is the need of ALL business!

This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Edmonds' home on Pennsylvania Ave., Norfolk, Va., this 5th day of March, 1933,

1. GC: You will have before you Norfolk Study Group #1, members of which are present in this room. You will give at this time a discourse on the basic thoughts upon which we should base the lesson, THE LORD THY GOD IS ONE. You will answer the questions which will be asked by members of the group.

2. EC: Yes, we have the group as gathered here, as a group and as individuals.

3. In the study of the lesson, in the preparation for selves, there should be - as indicated in the more recent lessons - the preparation rather in self than in discourse; for you each are learning, each are becoming conscious that there is

   an activity to take place within self, and self is to become the more conscious - as indicated - of that oneness that may manifest through the activities of the individual, in making the application in their lives, that there may be given that which will be an aid, in study from or of another of such experiences.

4. Then, those conditions that may arise in the experience of each, there may be enlightenment to self in those manners that will enable each to expand in words and in act, and indeed become the more aware, the more conscious.

5. For, as is and should be recognized in each, the contending forces that are within man as his individuality and personality (for a name) are that as self has builded, or that builded and the spirit of the living influence or life itself.

6. And these, then, made more and more aware that, "My life, my activities, my thoughts, my meditation, must be more and more in accord with the will of the Father." For in such, through such, does the individual, the entity, the soul, the individuality of an entity, become more godlike, less of self, less of the carnal influence may bear upon the activities of an individual, an entity, in this material plane.

7. Then, the activities of the will, the consciousness, the various terms that have been and are applied to the manner of expression in consciousness, are the basic thoughts, the basic activities through which each should prepare themselves for the abilities, for the activating forces that may assist them in giving that they must experience in their individual consciousnesses, as to how they may be expressed that others may gain a greater concept of the oneness of the Father in the material plane.

9. (Q) [585]: On March 2nd, whose voice did I hear speak to me, and what was the message?

   1. As is felt within self that there is a manifestation of a force, a power from without, this then is builded into that as the self through its experience gives such an influence and power concerning the consciousness of self. To be sure, this was a manifestation - but rather than being specific, rather than being an entity activity from without, it is rather the awakening within of the abilities to so associate and so connect and communicate with those influences from without. Then, as given of old, if there will be held and magnified within the consciousness of self that that desired, that voice, that presence that would aid in bringing the various consciousnesses to self, must be from the universal influences, or from His messenger, then may this be magnified in self and for self. Be mindful that it is not clothed in some other power.

10. (Q) [69]: Please tell me to whom was I talking the morning of Feb. 3rd and just why am I getting this experience.

    1. As given, be not afraid when it is said, "It is I." Rather, then, the experiences that are necessary for making aware within the consciousness of self how the inner self may be controlled by those powers, those influences, that an entity, an individual, entertains. Be not unmindful that ye entertain strangers that come to thee in thine consciousness, that reaches to the inner self and to the cosmic spheres; for angels are often entertained. Then, clothe and feed them only upon the words and the activities of the spirit of truth, and through same

       may come those experiences that have been long sought; for the time is near at hand. [262-41, Par. 8-A]

11. (Q) Is this information that I have been receiving the past four nights coming from some source other than my subconscious?

    1. To be sure, and these are worth entertaining.

12. (Q) Please tell me who is doing the talking?

    1. Who would the body have? Who would the inner forces entertain?

       For, "Seek and ye shall find" is spoken of the soul, spoken of those that would be the guides, the influences in the experiences, and is bound close with that which is being the study in the present, THE LORD THY GOD IS ONE. Do not accredit it to lower forces than His emissaries.

13. (Q) [[69]'s husband]: Please explain in a manner that I may correctly interpret, "Keep in the way that is open before thee, in giving to those that self contacts the concept of the vision held by self that lies ahead." What is the vision? [262-37, Par. 10-A]

    1. The vision is that that is held as the approach to the throne, of the consciousness of the divine that is within each individual. That self is oft in the position of being in a quandary, and fearful of being lightly spoken of for giving the experiences of self as contacting the various influences, is that referred to. Being, then, this: Be not loath nor unmindful to bear witness, in word, in act, to thine associates from day to day, of the manifestations of the power, the influence, that comes in thine experience; and thus may each soul, each entity, become more and more aware of the oneness of the Father in the world.

14. (Q) [303]: One night some weeks ago I saw floating above my head in space an exceedingly bright sphere or planet. It seemed to be moving within itself as well as through space. Please interpret this to me.

    1. As given, this group, these individuals, varied individuals, are reaching that period, that place in their experience, where signs, where activities within self, the consciousnesses within self, become more and more aware of the very lessons, the very truths that are being given out, that are to be made manifest in the experiences of selves and in the lives and experiences of others.

       So, in the vision seen, it is the world without and the world within - their movements as one coordinating with the other, the brightness of the orb itself as reflecting that which is the movement within self, that makes for the shedding abroad of the light, the understanding, the enlightenment that is obtained from within.

       Well was it said by Him, "Ye do not light a light to put it under a bushel."

       In this same manner that is experienced in self, when there is that consciousness within of being more and more in accord with the light that shineth even unto the darkness, though there may come strifes, though there may come disappointments, though there may come turmoils from without and from within, yet His peace maketh for a harmony - with that cooperation of the personality, the individuality; or self and thy God.

15. (Q) Please explain how I may spend self in the love for His ways.

    1. By that even as visioned. Let the light that shines without be lighted by that light which is created from within, making the activities of the inner self and

       the outer self in accord; or let that seen of others be impelled by the light from the love of the Giver of life, light, immortality.

16. (Q) Compilers: There is no other Name given among men whereby they may be saved. Saved from what? Please explain.

    1. From what may ANYONE be saved? Only from themselves! That is, their individual hell; they dig it with their own desires!

1. GC: You will have before you the Norfolk Study Group, #1, members of which are present in this room, and their work on the lesson, The Lord Thy God Is One, a copy of which I hold in my hand. You will give such counsel and further treatment of the lesson as the group needs at this time to continue the work on this lesson. You will answer the questions which will be asked by individuals and by the group as a whole.

2. EC: Yes, we have the group as gathered here, as a group, as individuals, and the work of the group on the lesson.

3. In giving that as may be helpful, beneficial to the various members of the group in preparing data, as given, it is well that the lesson, the preparation be in self rather than in advice or counsel.

4. But, that there may be the impulse for further consideration, for application in the experience of each, there should be the sincere attempt on the part of each to put into practice or application that that is known.

5. Does each individual understand that as was given, one must give account of every idle word spoken? that this is in reference to the oneness of purpose in an individual? that the mind, the body, the aptitude of the soul is under surveillance through such activity?

6. And, as given, as the body, the mind, the soul is one, so is God in the manifestations in power, might and glory in the earth.

7. That, then, should illustrate as to why there should be joyousness, gladness in the heart, in the speech, in the magnifying of the activities of each individual.

8. For, if the hate, grudge or selfishness has created such an influence as to separate self from a friend, a foe, any activity that has made for the loss of self's own respect of its abilities or its relationship to its Maker, how CAN such a soul be one in Him?

9. Then, let each test self; and it will be found that the ability to so illustrate in or from self's own experience will aid in lighting the way for others that seek to know The Lord Thy God Is One.

10. How sincere IS the DESIRE on the part of each TO know The Lord Thy God Is One? Sufficient to be active rather than just passive in the statement?

11. For, he that would gain the concept must believe that He is; and that He rewards those who seek to do His biddings.

12. Then, let each be active; up and doing, with a heart that is singing the joyous message that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. It IS within! I AM the brother! I AM the associate with the Son, in the relationships to the Father!

13. And the life will mean more! For, has it not been given that the earth IS the Lord's and the fullness thereof? True, many within themselves stumble over that which, even, has not been comprehended; in that there is the mental body, the physical body, the spiritual body. They are one!

14. In analyzing, then, do not let the analysis become the object; but the body in the Lord, the oneness in PURPOSE, that is gained through the knowledge that the mental - the consciousness, IS the builder. And that the oneness of purpose is in Him AS one doth clarify the conditions that are to be met.

15. When there is seemingly the slighting on the part of another, evidences in the material mind that conditions or activities are as stumbling blocks not compatible with thine OWN ideal, then know that all activity is a manifestation of ONE power

    - and IS the ATTEMPT of the individual to assert either the power and glory of GOD, or of self!

16. WHERE IS thine OWN will? One with HIS, or to the glorifying of thine own desires - thine own selfish interests?

17. The way is not long, nor is the cross more grievous than ye may bear - if the trust will be in Him, that "I will not leave thee comfortless, I will come and abide with thee."

18. But we are so constituted, by that builded within ourselves, that He does not come without the invitation that He abide with us.

19. For, with that power of will are we the sons of God - capable of being equal WITH Him in the glory that He would share with us. As He gave, "I and the Father are One, and ye in me, I in the Father - "

20. These, then, should aid all in making that contribution that enables all to WANT, to DESIRE, to be on fire with that desire, to MANIFEST the Oneness of the Father in Life.

21. For, as He is Life - we in Life may make manifest that our desires, our hearts, our minds, our souls, are ONE with Him in bringing to the knowledge of one - ANYONE - EVERYONE - that the power of God, through the Christ, is able to save; even unto the utmost.

1. GC: You will give at this time a discourse which will sum up and correlate the data already given through this channel on the fundamental truths regarding the Oneness of all Force, and will furnish us with some basic, logical, systematically arranged statements which can be given out as fundamental truths to students of this work. You will answer the questions on this subject which will be asked.

2. EC: Yes. In giving that which may be given out as basic truth, and correlating the statements that have been made from time to time, it would have been better to have gathered from that given the basis for expansion through these channels.

3. Yet, we may give that which may be the basis or the foundation of truth that may be gathered here and there.

4. As to the correlation and the setting out of paragraphs, at least you should do something!

5. The basis, then: "Know, O Israel, (Know, O People) the Lord Thy God is One!"

6. From this premise we would reason, that: In the manifestation of all power, force, motion, vibration, that which impels, that which detracts, is in its essence of one force, one source, in its elemental form. As to what has been done or accomplished by or through the activity of entities that have been delegated powers in activity is another story.

7. As to the one source or one force, then, are the questions presented in the present.

8. God, the first cause, the first principle, the first move- ment, IS! That's the beginning! That is, that was, that ever shall be!

9. The following of those sources, forces, activities that are in accord with the Creative Force or first cause - its laws, then - is to be one with the source, or equal with yet separate from that first cause.

10. When, then, may man - as an element, an entity, a separate being manifested in material life and form - be aware or conscious of the moving of that first cause within his own environ?

11. Or, taking man in his present position or consciousness, how or when may he be aware of that first cause moving within his realm of consciousness?

12. In the beginning there was the force of attraction and the force that repelled. Hence, in man's consciousness he becomes aware of what is known as the atomic or cellular form of movement about which there becomes nebulous activity. And this is the lowest form (as man would designate) that's in active forces in his experience. Yet this very movement that separates the forces in atomic influence is the first cause, or the manifestation of that called God in the material plane!

13. Then, as it gathers of positive-negative forces in their activity, whether it be of one element or realm or another, it becomes magnified in its force or sources through the universe.

14. Hence we find worlds, suns, stars, nebulae, and whole solar systems MOVING from a first cause.

15. When this first cause comes into man's experience in the present realm he becomes confused, in that he appears to have an influence upon this force or power in directing same. Certainly! Much, though, in the manner as the reflection of light in a mirror. For, it is only reflected force that man may have upon those forces that show themselves in the activities, in whatever realm into which man may be delving in the moment - whether of the nebulae, the gaseous, or the elements that have gathered together in their activity throughout that man has chosen to call time or space. And becomes, in its very movement, of that of which the first cause takes thought IN a finite existence or consciousness.

16. Hence, as man applies himself - or uses that of which he becomes conscious in the realm of activity, and gives or places the credit (as would be called) in man's consciousness in the correct sphere or realm he becomes conscious of that union of force with the infinite with the finite force.

17. Hence, in the fruits of that - as is given oft, as the fruits of the spirit - does man become aware of the infinite penetrating, or inter-penetrating the activities of all forces of matter, or that which is a manifestation of the realm of the infinite into the finite - and the finite becomes conscious of same.

18. As to the application of these as truths, then:

19. It may be said that, as the man makes in self - through the ability given for man in his activity in a material plane - the will one with the laws of creative influence, we begin with:

20. "Like begets like - As he sows, so shall he reap - As the man thinketh in the heart, so is he."

21. These are all but trite sayings to most of us, even the thinking man; but should the mind of an individual (the finite mind) turn within his own being for the law pertaining to these trite sayings, until the understanding arises, then there is the consciousness in the finite of the infinite moving upon and in the inner self.

22. So does life in all its force begin in the earth. The moving of the infinite upon the negative force of the finite in the material, or to become a manifested force.

24. (Q) Explain how so called good and evil forces are one.

    1. This has just been explained. When there is delegated power to a body that has separated itself from the spirit (or coming from the unseen into the seen, or from the unconscious into the physical consciousness, or from God's other door - or opening from the infinite to the finite), then the activity is life; with the will of the source of that which has come into being. As to what it does with or about its associations of itself to the source of its activity, as to how far it may go afield, depends upon how high it has attained in its ability to throw off both negative and positive forces.

       Hence we say, "The higher he flies the harder the fall." It's true!

       Then, that which has been separated into the influence to become a body, whether celestial, terrestrial, or plain clay manifested into activity as man, becomes good or bad. The results to the body so acting are dependent and independent [interdependent?] (inter-between, see) upon what he does with the knowledge of - or that source of - activity.

25. (Q) In relation to the Oneness of all force, explain the popular concept of the Devil, seemingly substantiated in the Bible by many passages of scripture.

    1. In the beginning, celestial beings. We have first the Son, then the other sons or celestial beings that are given their force and power.

       Hence that force which rebelled in the unseen forces (or in spirit) that came into activity, was that influence which has been called Satan, the Devil, the Serpent; they are One. That of REBELLION!

       Hence, when man in any activity rebels against the influences of good he harkens to the influence of evil rather than the influence of good.

       Hence, will is given to man as he comes into this manifested form that we see in material forces, for the choice. As given, "There is set before thee (man) good and evil."

       Evil is rebellion. Good is the Son of Life, of Light, of Truth; and the Son of Light, of Life, of Truth, came into physical being to demonstrate and show and lead the way for man's ascent to the power of good over evil in a material world.

       As there is, then, a personal savior, there is the personal devil.

1. GC: You will have before you the Norfolk Study Group #1, members of which are present here, and its work in the preparation of the lesson "Knowledge." You will continue the discourse on this subject and answer the questions which will be presented.

2. EC: Yes, we have the group as gathered here, as a group, as individuals, and their work on the lesson Knowledge.

3. In continuing with what has been given, first let each examine themselves as to whether they as individuals have pondered that which has been presented, and answer within themselves - Has the choice been made within self that ye have as an individual emptied self of those petty malices, those set ideas as to this or that, and are ready to open thy mind, thy heart, to the true Knowledge?

4. For Knowledge is power; and all force, all power, emanates from the one source.

5. Has thy mind been able, then, to be empty and ready for that which may be given each? Thus ye as individuals may be awakened to the influence of the love of the Master that CLEANSES, that makes pure, that brings within thine own experience the Knowledge of the Father as thy God, thy stay, in whom ye may indeed trust.

6. For His promises are sure, and the Knowledge of these promises being thine - not someone else's - may indeed be experienced. Not that thou art the judge of thy brother, of thy neighbor, of any purpose; but that ye as true sons and daughters of the Father are willing, are ready to receive Him as thy guide, thy understanding.

7. For thou art His. Hath He not said, 'Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing?' Doth He not give to those that ask? And yet ye in thine little understanding, in the weakness of thy Knowledge of man, of thy brother, of the worldly conditions about thee, trust rather in circumstance, in favors, in this or that in thine experience rather than in the Knowledge that "I am Thine, and Thy Son's promise has been that what I ask in His name, that will be done in my experience; that experience necessary that I be one with Him."

8. This then is TRUE Knowledge. Not that the understanding of what the world terms Knowledge is that cause and effect exist, that there is this or that law in effect, this or that experience that comes into the affairs of individuals that brings this or that effect into the experiences of others. Are not the interpretations of these laws in essence a comprehending of the true Knowledge of the LOVE the Father hath for His children?

9. Those that accredit same to other forces, or of nature, or of this or that influence in the experiences of man and say that these are natural because they follow as the day follows the night, and that these have existed from time immemorial and consequently remain, are becoming much as he whom the Master gave as an example, that he was the simple one, the fool, for "This night thy soul will be required of thee."

10. What then cometh of thy barns, of thy store of riches, of thy power, of thy money, of thy position, of thy exalted place; yea, even of thy good name, lest it be that having been in the true Knowledge thou hast been indeed a channel that hath opened the eyes of those that had been dimmed by the vicissitudes of life that brought fear and distrust; lest thou hast brought to others a Knowledge, an understanding in thy daily life, in thy daily dealings with thy fellow man, that "First seek the Lord while He may be found, and all these things will be added unto thee in their order, in THEIR place, in THEIR time."

11. Because of the worldly knowledge, then, many have become faint, many have fallen away.

12. What saith He to you who have emptied yourselves of traditions, who have emptied yourselves of malice, who have emptied yourselves of hate? Encourage those that are weak, strengthen the fainthearted; in THESE be the true knowledge; in these be the perfect understanding that HIS ways, thy God's ways are not past finding out - if ye will but seek him while He may be found.

13. In the knowledge of the mental life, that this or that experience through thy association or activity has come to thee, does this bring thee peace - or confusion? Doth this bring harmony, or does it bring strife? By its fruit ye shall know whether it be the true Knowledge of God or not. For ye gather not figs from thistles; neither doth there spring living waters from those that are dried or dead within themselves to the true Knowledge of the living water.

14. These be the influences that true Knowledge is that those correct interpretations of experiences, other than thine own, are what hath it wrought in the experience of those that apply same in their dealings with their fellow man day by day? Not whether it has brought riches or fame, or those things that are even well-spoken of by those of the world, but has it made in the experience of the individual a better neighbor, a kindlier friend, a more long suffering one with those that would hinder? Doth it bring patience? Doth it bring love in any manifested form? THIS shows as to whether the true Knowledge is manifested in the experience of any individual.

15. So in applying this in self, if that ye have heard, that ye have seen, that ye have experienced, that ye have pondered in thine heart makes of thee a better father, a better mother, a better friend, a better neighbor, more gentle with those that are cross, more loving to those that are dishonest, more patient with those that storm here or there, then ye are experiencing the true Knowledge of the Father.

16. If it has brought not this, if it brings not in thine own experience the fruits of the Spirit, then it is not of God; neither is it countenanced by thy Brother, thy Savior, who prayed that He might, that ye might, that all men everywhere might be of the one mind IN GOD!

17. What was the confusion? That there was the misinterpreting, the selfish motive, the lack of understanding. These brought confusion, but the true Knowledge is "not of myself but the Father that worketh in me and through me."

    It is the knowledge that maketh alive, that maketh not afraid, that meeteth each day with the love of the greater opportunities, that maketh for the meeting of each ache, each pain within thine own body with that fortitude that makes for the removal of same through the Knowledge that He is God of the weak, of the great, of the lowly, of those that are in power, of those that are oppressed. And He heareth the voice of those that cry unto Him.

18. What art thou doing about removing the oppressions, about giving an understanding to those that are in power as to the source from whence they obtained same? and as to what is in store for those that forsake His ways day by day?

19. THIS is Knowledge, that ye show THYSELF approved unto that which is set in Him that hath shown thee the pattern, that hath made the way straight; that those who seek Him may not be confused therein, that they who love His coming will just act as those that are in close communion with Him from day to day.

20. THIS is Knowledge, that ye love one another, that ye show forth in thy dealings with thy fellow man day by day that thou carest, thou understandest, thou art willing to take a portion of the burden of those that are so heavily burdened with the cares of life, the cares of the world, the deceitfulness of riches; that thou art willing to aid those in distress, thou art willing to feed those that are hungry - not just materially. For the world is crying for that Knowledge.

21. It is opened to thee that have made the choice that ye will empty thyselves of those little differences that breed hate, contempt; and those things that HURT and HURT in thy dealings with thy fellow man.

22. Forgive, if ye would be forgiven. THAT is Knowledge. Be friendly, if ye would have friends. THAT is Knowledge. Be lovely, if ye would have the love even of thy Father; for He is love. This indeed be Knowledge.

1. GC: You will have before you Group #1, members of which are present here, and its work on the lesson SPIRIT. You will continue the discourse on this lesson and answer the questions.

2. EC: Yes, we have the group as gathered here - and their work on the lesson SPIRIT.

3. As has been indicated, this is the beginning, the end of self-development - IF it is applied in the experience of the individuals.

4. Then it behooves us that we give an interpretation, an explanation, of what is in reality meant when many of the accepted terms are indicated in the individual expression.

5. This to be sure is a question then within the realm of the metaphysical as well as in the material.

6. Then we should be able to answer ever for the cause, the purpose that we have within us, for every question that may arise respecting such.

7. The spirit of the times! What do we mean?

8. The spirit of the age! We here speak of the spirit of America, the spirit of '76, the spirit of the pioneer! What do we mean?

9. We hear again of the spirit of Fascism, the spirit of the Japanese. What do we mean?

10. The Spirit of God, the Spirit of Christ, the Spirit of the Church, the Spirit of Truth - what do we mean?

11. It has been given, has it not, that there is ONE Spirit?

12. Then what is the meaning of this confusion of words?

13. When we speak of the spirit of the departed, what do we mean? From whence arose such terms?

14. Again it has been given that we know nothing that we have not experienced in this material world. What is meant?

15. When the Master spoke to Peter and said - "...flesh and blood hath not revealed IT unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven" - was that an indication that the Spirit is divided? Is the same meant when He said a few minutes later "Get thee behind me, Satan - thou savourest not the things that be of God (the Spirit), but those that be of men (the earth)"?

16. What is the spirit of the earth? What has He given?

17. These then must be questions; not only questions but answers. For as they have been asked of us here, they must in truth be answered in such a manner that we - each of us - may make them practical, applicable, practical in our experiences day by day.

18. Then we must begin, my beloved, at the beginning of how, where, when such things came to be a terminology; or expressed in such manners that there appeared to be, or APPEARS to be, or MAY appear to be, a diffusion, a separation; that only those who HAVE the desire for the seeking and knowing the truth MAY correctly interpret.

19. For remember, as has been given by Him, flesh and blood may NOT reveal it unto us - it is the gift of the Father; that we may be lights unto the children of men, to those that sit in darkness, to those that are confused, to those that have made their opportunities stumbling stones rather than stepping- stones.

20. But these must then answer, ever, in all good conscience, to all that seek to know.

21. Then the basic or first causes, as Spirit came to materiality, must be sought out. And to be understandable to man, to be comprehended by all, they - the first causes, the answers - must conform to that which has been ever given, in ANY condition, in ANY experience of man in his seeking in this material world. They must answer for that which was, that which is, and that which will be.

22. Then we must know from whence we came; how, why; and whence we go - and why.

23. In God's own purpose, Spirit is His presence then. For the Spirit of God moved and that which is in matter came into being, for the opportunities of His associates, His companions, His sons, His daughters. These are ever spoken of as One.

24. Then there came that as sought for self-indulgence, self-glorification; and there was the beginning of warring among themselves for activity - STILL in Spirit.

25. Then those that had made selfish movements moved into that which was and is OPPORTUNITY, and there came life into same.

26. Then what was the Spirit that moved that made rebellion? The Spirit of God or the Spirit of Self?

27. This becomes self-evident even when we look about us in our own experience day by day. They that have the Spirit of God have the Spirit of Truth, have the Spirit of Christ, have the Spirit of Construction.

28. They that have the Spirit of Rebellion have the Spirit of Hate, the Spirit of Confusion; and seek self-glory rather than peace, harmony and understanding.

29. Thus as has been indicated, the Spirit pushed into matter - and became what we see in our three-dimensional world as the kingdoms of the earth; the mineral, the vegetable, the animal - a three-dimensional world.

30. And that which beareth witness is the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Light. For He said, "Let there be light; and there was light."

31. Then indeed there is no power that emanates that is not from God.

32. Then what is this Spirit of Rebellion, what is this Spirit of Hate? What is this Spirit of Self-Indulgence? What is this Spirit that makes men afraid?

33. SELFISHNESS! Allowed, yes, of the Father. For, as given, He has not willed that the souls should perish but that we each should know the truth - and the truth would make us free. Of what? Selfishness!

34. Then we should each know that the sin which lies at our door is ever the sin of selfishness, self-glory, self-honor.

35. Hence as the Master has said, unless we become even as He, we may not in ANY wise enter in.

36. Enter to what? To the consciousness that our Father would that we be even as that Spirit of Truth manifested by the Son of Righteousness, that - even as those souls took on flesh in this three-dimensional world; becoming a part, a parcel of what? Those kingdoms of which the earth is a part; or that by their very presence is in existence.

37. Hence we find He had come, is come, ever has come into the experience that He might through love - not force, not hate, not by command but by edification and justification - bring that soul that is dominated by the Spirit to understanding.

38. Thus we find His intervention in man's attempt throughout the eons of time and space. For these (time and space) become portions of this three- dimensional plane. And what is the other? Time, Space, Patience!

39. For God has shown and does show us day by day, even as His Son gave, that in patience we become aware of our souls, of our identity, of our being each a corpuscle, as it were, in the great body, in the heart of, our God. And He has not willed otherwise.

40. Then what is the Spirit of God? PATIENCE, TIME AND SPACE in the material understanding.

41. This then is our first premise; that God IS - in the material experience of man

    • TIME, SPACE, PATIENCE!

42. For have not even our own wise ones conceived that those elements between that which is and that which will be are of the same? What? God, the Spirit!

43. We in our seeking then have seen the movements in the earth, by the very activities of those influences, by what? "Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." Either to do good or to do evil, according to our individual application of the Spirit of Truth or of Creative Force in our material experience.

44. Who then is the aggressor? He that seeks to glorify self, to make the selfish motives guide the progress.

45. And as has so oft been given in times past, God has winked at and God has allowed such things to pass; yet ever is calling - calling - to the sons of God; that we make straight the paths! For He will not ALWAYS hold to those things that rend the heart of God.

46. For when we are raised in power we know, as we have seen, that our spirit beareth witness with HIS SPIRIT that we are His children.

47. What then is the Spirit of Patriotism, the Spirit of Christ - yes, the Spirit of Knowledge, but that - as they are individualized by the activity of those that seek to know and make the paths straight - they take on that power, that might, yes that glory, that is the magnifying of that Spirit of Truth that is God in any individual group, nation or experience of man?

48. These then become those basic beginnings.

49. Now we, in our individual selves, seek - for what? Self- glory, self- understanding; or that we may be in His place as an emissary, a missionary, a CHANNEL through which OTHERS, too, may know that the consciousness of Christ is but that we have effaced self and are again one with Him - to be a purpose in the scheme of redemption for those souls whose spirits are a portion of the God as ourselves?

50. Let us indeed know then that God is not mocked, and that what we sow we must meet in our own selves. For He calls always unto all men to Come - COME

    • and take of the water of life.

51. What is this water of life? What is this that the Spirit and the Bride, or the Spirit and the Lamb, say to come and take of freely?

52. PATIENCE, TIME, SPACE! That we may know ourselves to be His; that our spirits, our souls, bear witness in the things that we do in which we bear witness of Him.

53. For that which has a beginning must have an ending. Hence rebellion and hate and selfishness must be wiped away, and WITH IT will go sorrow and tears and sadness. For ONLY good shall rule. For it is the Spirit of God that will move over the face of the earth, and Lo, His Son - even Jesus, the Christ - has borne in himself all these things, and has committed unto us the keeping of His sheep, His lambs, till He come to make an accounting with each of us.

1. GC: You will have before you Norfolk Study Group #1, members of which are present here, and their work on the lesson Spirit. You will continue the discourse on this lesson, and answer the questions asked.

2. EC: Yes, we have the group as gathered here; as a group, as individuals, and their work on the lesson Spirit.

3. In continuing with that which has been given, it would be well - as has been outlined - that we each ask within ourselves that which would enable each of us to correlate these interpretations with our experiences.

4. For as has been given oft, unless we are able to make the lessons practical in our own experience, how will we ask others to interpret or apply them?

5. In answering then the questions that pertain to Spirit and its relationships to man in his PRESENT estate in the material plane:

6. All SPIRIT is ONE. How?

7. Just as all force, all power emanates from that influence, that essence, that consciousness, that awareness which the consciousness of man - or man as the image of the Creator - worships.

8. How then is man a part of Spirit? How does he live, move, have his being in that Creative Force?

9. How does man differ from other animate, inanimate beings or matter in the material plane?

10. As has been given, error or separation began before there appeared what we know as the Earth, the Heavens; or before Space was manifested.

11. This becomes hard to conceive in the finite mind; as does the finite mind fail to grasp the lack of or NO time. Yet out of Time, Space, Patience, is it possible for the consciousness of the finite to KNOW the infinite.

12. Hence, then, the interpretations of Spirit as it manifests to the sons of men must follow closely what we have chosen as Holy Writ.

13. Before this began (this not as history but as the basis of the interpretation), we have had how one Amilius with that projection of self brought into being the awareness of desires as related to relationships with the beings - or matter - about.

14. Hence there began what is NOW known as the correlating, or the cohesive activity, or the relativity of matter as it relates to what becomes positive and negative.

15. Remember, negative is only error.

16. Then, these make for this activity through those Influences in thine own earth, thine own sphere, of which you have begun to catch a glimpse here or there as to their activities. And our own earth, our own sphere, as we realize more and more, is only a speck, only a dot in the universe.

17. Then why, as has been said, is God mindful of an individual soul?

18. SPIRIT! For our spirit, that is a portion of His Spirit, ever bears witness with His Spirit as to whether we be the children of God or not.

19. Then through Mu, Oz, Atlantis - with the breaking up of these - why, WHY no records of these if there were the civilizations that are ordinarily accredited to them by the interpreting of the records made by entities or souls upon the skein of what? Time and Space?

20. But he only that has recognized Patience within self may indeed make the record as an experience in the consciousness of any.

21. Each individual spirit then is only a portion of His Spirit. Not that God is separated. But in His love, in what we call infinite love, boundless, the unbounding grace and mercy and patience and love and long-suffering, these have brought to the Father the thought of the lack of, the wonderment of, companionship.

22. But we, as we see in our OWN experiences about us, must earn - yes, must measure up - yes, must conceive of its existence before we may enjoy, before we may know and have the awareness, the consciousness of the existence of such experiences in our OWN understanding, our own comprehension.

23. Then, as the sons of God came together and saw in the earth the unspeakable conditions becoming more and more for self-indulgence, self- glorification, the ability to procreate through the very forces of their activity, we find that our Lord, our Brother, CHOSE to measure up, to earn, to ATTAIN that companionship for man with the Father through the overcoming of SELF in the physical plane.

24. By Choice we know His companionship, and by will we exercise exercise our Choice. And He is ever willing, ready to give us all the power, all the influence to bring love, light, into our own active consciousness.

25. And He does so as we apply ourselves; not unmindful though is He of our weaknesses throughout our experiences in the earth, in the sojourns. For He came as those activities when man was in the beginning of what we have recorded as that God brought light.

26. What is Light, then, in that sense? In that city, in that place, there is no need of the sun, nor of the moon, nor the stars; for He is the LIGHT; He IS Light, and in Him is no darkness at all!

27. "Let there be light," then, was that consciousness that Time began to be a factor in the experience of those creatures that had entangled themselves in matter; and became what we know as the Influences in a material plane. And the moving force and the life in each, and the activities in each are from the Spirit.

28. Hence as we see, the divisions were given then for the day, the night; and then man knew that consciousness that made him aware that the morning and the evening were the first day.

29. What is our experience? Have we visioned, have we understood, have we even attempted to comprehend what is the meaning of the evening and the morning being the first day of an infant entering the material plane? a soul taking on flesh, its attributes, its whole experiences in heaven, in earth, in all the Influences about the earth?

30. Let us each study same. We will catch a new vision of what Time and Space begin to mean. Then we know that with Patience you mothers have waited and known from this or that experience those awakenings, those awarenesses of the activity; and we see the creation of the world, as the awareness of these influences that have become enmeshed, entangled into matter; that are seeking they know not what.

31. For that desire to procreate in self, or to hold to selfish interests, has grown - grown - until it IS what did He give? - the prince of this world; the prince of this world!

32. Know that He who came as our director, as our brother, as our Savior, has said that the prince of this world has no part in Him nor with Him.

33. Then as we become more and more aware within ourselves of the answering of the experiences, we become aware of what He gave to those that were the first of GOD'S projection - not man's but God's projection - into the earth; Adam and Eve.

34. And then in their early day they were tempted by the prince of this world, and partook of same.

35. When we see that in ourselves, yes in our own sons, in our own daughters, in our own brothers, in our own husbands, in our own wives, we begin to see how, why that Patience becomes a part of that which is the awareness in man of God's presence in the earth.

36. And we see the ways and means through which such activities were presented to those children that were bestowed with the very power of God, yet not aware of right and wrong. For they were IN a world ruled by the prince of selfishness, darkness, hate, malice, jealousy, backbiting, uncomely things; not of the beauties, but that self might be taking advantage in this or that way or manner.

37. What moves the spirit of these activities? GOD, but - Will and Choice misdirected.

38. And these then show the mercy and the Patience that He gives forth to each soul in this speck, this dot in the universe. Yet He would have each soul, each one of us, to become even as He - even as He prayed: "Father, may they be with me where I am; that they may behold the glory I had with thee before the foundations of the world."

39. What do these words mean to us? That the Spirit has quickened us, so that we seek to manifest what? His mercy, His grace, His Patience among our fellow men.

40. And He has given His angels charge concerning us, that they bear us up, if we will but make ourselves as one with Him.

41. Then, as there were the disputations in themselves, their blaming in the sons or among the sons of God in this material world, there became the peopling of the earth with what? That they had themselves made, even as Amilius, even as in those lands and countries where even with their worldly knowledge as children of God their activities had gone to seed in that which is selfishness, self- destruction.

42. We may see this, we know this in our own experience from the very fields, yes in our very homes: When that which has grown to seed and blossomed in our experience, if selfishness began it then the seed must be hate, avarice, those things that are the fruits of same. For these are the lessons that we see in those things which came to those children of men. Yet He but the second comes and He is known as he that walks with God. He preached, yes practiced, what? Love, Patience, Obedience; and the world knew Him not. Why? For as He has given, when He again and again has come into the earth, to the sons of men, the world knows us not.

43. Then seek not worldly fame, worldly recognition, you that are sowing the seeds of truth in your lessons, in your meditations. Because this day or this generation seeks not that as you may understand. KNOW that you cannot do but sow. God giveth the increase. But CULTIVATE that you sow in your daily experiences.

This psychic reading was given by Edgar Cayce, this 16th day of February, 1935.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, the soul mind, [264]; this we have had before.

2. In giving that which may be helpful at this time, may there come with the awareness of the conscious mind, through the spiritual message that may be given, that in applying spiritual lessons to material facts there is the necessity that the body-mind and the soul-mind be at-one.

3. There have been, as indicated for the body, those periods of mental and spiritual developments for this entity; also those periods when the misapplication for the better development of the physical body has occurred, yet these should be looked upon as that which is necessary for the experience of the soul that these may be indeed one. For the awareness makes for first the CORRECT attitudes of the soul-mind, of the conscious-mind of an entity, that resentment in ANY phase is but as a barrier for the more perfect development of the whole or of the soul. Also that gentleness, kindness, a soft word even when there is anger and resentment; when there are those feelings that arise from ANY experience that find expressions in sharpness of words, in a resentment in any manner, that but make such conditions that the whole becomes as but fear and trembling.

4. That there may be more awareness in the physical forces of the body, keep that constant building from within, making the conscious mind, the soul-mind, more and more with that oneness of purpose, or desire, and the expressions of same will be more in keeping with constructive, creative development in the self and in that the self gives out.

6. (Q) How can I understandingly seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness?

   1. By making application in word, in deed, in thought, as is seen and understood by self. For AS one uses that one knows, the awareness of its source, of its ability, of its end, is more and more a part of the entity, of the soul. For to do good is to be absent from that which will cause, EVER or at any time, confusion in self or in others.

      Then, to become aware is to do that which is known. Then the next step that should be for the self is given through that of meeting oft with thy god-self from within. For the growth, as He gave, the knowledge of God and His righteousness is a growth from within. It is not put on as a garment from without, not by this or that manner of rote alone. But if thy consciousness, if thy inner self needs or requires attitude, then CONFORM to same to be aware of that which grows and grows from within. Does the beauty of the rose come from that shed upon same? Rather does it grow from within, ABSORBING - to be sure - from that environ about same. So the awareness of the kingdom, of being at-one, of

      having the Christ Consciousness as thy companion, as at-oneness with thee, is DOING, being - not by faith or by works alone, but by BEING, by doing - that which is as the promptings of the desire of the heart, that has met and does meet in the secret chambers of thy mind, of thy heart. For that which is given thee from within, as He gave, shall be shouted from the housetops.

7. (Q) How can I gain the understanding to hold the right mental attitude of thought to cause my body to be cleansed or healed now?

   1. As has oft been given, do not confuse the body element and the spiritual elements. For the moment turn to this as a comprehensive and as an awareness:

      Each atom of the body-physical is an expression of a spiritual import. That is how matter comes into being. That through rebellious forces within an atomic structure portions become as warriors against good, as set up within a physical body, is proven by dis-ease and distress, both mental AND physical. That which is in the physical body that is so combined as to make the structural forces, that are composed of the warring atomic influences within a body, more aware; whether they be from the mental self or from the physical that are necessary to make aware, they are OF the same source, the same force.

      There has been given to this body how in the varied periods to meet emergencies in the physical structure of the body. Then, make the applications of such in the material manner. Make applications of such in the mental and spiritual manner; knowing, seeing, making them ONE. See?

8. (Q) What are my abilities in my innate and soul self which are latent, and how may I develop and use them rightly?

   1. Again and again has this been given the body. The abilities of analyzing those that have the same rebellious influences in their lives, of their experiences, to this or that measure. And as the body-mind, as the soul-mind, as the entity enables others, so does it enable self to see, to know, that from every phase of experience which makes more and more aware of the spiritual import and to give the proper evaluation and interpretation of mental and soul activity in a body.

      Is the motivative force of soul or spirit in growth in any manner, any MORE expressive of the God-influence in one element than another? All show forth His handiwork. Man alone, of self, through self, sets same aside for self- indulgences or self-aggrandizements, and gives then the improper evaluations here and there. But if the entity will seek and seek, more and more will the light of His love purify the body, the mind, and the growth of the soul be assured.

9. (Q) What were the thoughts and tenets which were studied at the time of my incarnation when in the Temple Beautiful, wherein I was enabled through the activities to become more in accord with developing the body beautiful? [See Life reading, 264-31.]

   1. That the motivative forces that cleanse matter are of the spiritual fires that have removed and do remove the dross of carnal forces. For when the body, when the soul (as the entity did then), makes for no thought of self or of body but that the glory and the fires of love that are of the Creative Forces burn within the mind, the body, the soul, so do they purify the FLESH, the MATTER, the INFLUENCES of being IN a DIMENSIONAL plane.

10. (Q) In what exercises was I engaged which will aid me now?

    1. In the movements of the body as in relationships to foods, vibrations, that are a portion of the Creative Energies that manifest themselves in material planes. As in the study of the emotions aroused by the fire, water, air, earth, and their combinations that lie in all of their relative relations as one to another. These be they that the entity, the soul, applied. These be they of which the entity, the soul may become aware, IN its application TODAY, NOW, of that which manifests through self.

11. (Q) Should I develop either of those expressions in music, in words, in songs, or dance, which influenced me then?

    1. All!

12. (Q) Of what condition, and how, was my body cleansed in that experience as Ipt-sa, and how may I use this in the present?

    1. Just as described. Not only in knowing and becoming aware of those activities, seeing, feeling, raising those vibrations within self, but SEEING them - not only by self but raised as by the power and influence of Him that IS Life and not self alone!

13. (Q) Have I any ability for writing which will give aid to others?

    1. As the natural expressions are to communicate to others that which has been found good in self, if it is to the glory of the motivating force and not for the satisfaction of self, one has much to give. THIS entity has much to give in THIS direction.

14. (Q) Why do I want my body and surroundings unnecessarily clean, and why do I dislike to touch flowers and animals?

    1. A natural consequence of those influences from the awareness of these necessary forces to be gone through; not as rote but as a cleansing. And that from the changing or falling away, or the evolving through those vibrations from animal or from nature or the flower; but the AWARENESS that they MUST be one and ARE one makes for purity of the whole! 15. (Q) How may I overcome this?

    1. By application.

This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce, this 2nd day of June, 1924, in accordance with request made by self - Miss [288].

1. EC: We find these, as in the present earth's plane, have had many experiences together, and their soul and spirit are well knit, and must of necessity present each that they may be one. For we find in the beginning that they, these two (which we shall speak of as they until separated), were as one in mind, soul, spirit, body; and in the first earth's plane as the voice over many waters, when the glory of the Father's giving of the earth's indwelling of man was both male and female in one.

2. In flesh form in earth's plane we find the first in that of the Poseidian forces, when both were confined in the body of the female; for this being the stronger in the then expressed or applied forces found manifestations for each in that form. Yet with the experiences as have been brought in that plane and period, we find then the separation of the body. For the desire of the flesh being to give of self in bodily form to the other, it brought the separating of the spirit and soul from the carnal forces when next brought to earth's plane. The experiences there were as these: These two were the giving of the spiritual development in the land [Atlantis], and the giving of the uplift to the peoples of the day and age. The desire came for the bodily connection of coition with one of lower estate, and through this treachery of one not capable of understanding it brought physical defects in the limbs [See 288-38, Par. 12-A, 13-A; 288-2 in re elephantiasis] of these then contained in the one body in physical form. Hence in the coma [?], and karma exercised in coma [?], there was brought the separation, as given in the injunction from the Maker: "I have this day set before you good and evil. Choose the light or the darkness." [Deut. 30: 15,19]

3. With this desire of self's aggrandizement there was brought separation in the

   next plane, yet bound together in physical affections one for the other. In that of the Egyptian rule, in the first of the pharaohs do we find this connection as separated brought to the earth's plane. There we find again the priest and the lawgiver in they, though separated now in male and female. In 12,800 B.C. we find together. The desires then coming from the sex desire between the two for the developing, and in that we find it counted as righteousness in both, for - though in the priestcraft in the one, and given to sexual desires in more than in one - the desire remained in the One, for which the Oneness was created. [See 262-67, Par. 21-A.] The earthly age in earth's plane, though, as given, this in itself brought destruction to the female early, and in a few years to the other.

4. Again we find in the Arabian forces, when soon both are brought to the earth's plane, though far separated this time in their station and their earth's conditions, being or giving each, or, as it were, each receiving that as commensurate with their lives lived in earth's plane, with the intent and purpose of developing toward the Oneness again. (For all souls are one in Him, and must return.)

5. In this we find they become opposing forces, one on the earth's plane in that sphere surrounded with pomp, grandeur and all the good things as called in earth's plane, and educated (speaking of the female) in the courts of royalty, and the companion of the king's offspring [369]. The man [294] we find as Uhjltd, in the warring forces of the plain, having the course of the outcast, as it were, from the better things, yet seeking the submission of others to the will and to the animal developed forces in the entity. With the meeting, when each have become so taken, there is the realizing of, or awakening to, the oneness of their souls in the plain [plane?]; both having been made, first one, then the other, in the prison position, or slave position. There we find both of good stature, beautiful in figure, form, and in all the charm of bodily forces par excellent to each. In their close association they become enamored of each and give of themselves to the pleasures of the bodily forces, as known, and which had not been known in the same manner and form with others. For, with this long innate force being dormant in the soul and spirit, again the bodily forces and charms of the sex became those enclosed with each, that a giving of satisfaction not understandable to others was experienced and known. (Hence each must know that in the present earth's plane the giving of the forces in this capacity may only be the harkening of the entity being brought to the force in the soul and spirit developing to the oneness of same, to which it must come to present itself before the Creator, as in the beginning.)

6. We find there - after this - (in these we give one of the illustrations of the

   history of these associations, of which there were many, and were for days enacted, and for which both suffered physically, and they each bear in the body at present a mark designating these conditions. On the female body, just below the left breast, to the side and on the edge of breast itself, the mark, and an answering one on the body of the male, in the opposite proximity of the breast, but) these were the conditions enacted:

7. When these were in the cave, to which they had fled, when each were escaping from the vengeance of the forces of each army, and were with the company of two others (these we deal with), the day had come when they made then the companion of king's daughter and the teacher [295?] of both [369] and [288]. Their lives had been despaired of, and - though the maid had held the affection of her lord and master above that of self, still the answering of spirit and soul gave the answering with the body beautiful. For, the charms in breast, neck, thighs, naval, all gave of the beauty as would reach the soul of the mate, and the crying of the soul's desire, both in the carnal and the answering of the oneness in each.

8. After this giving of the life [[369]'s suicide?] and the dressing of each for the journey into Egypt for embalming, each with bodies oiled and dressed from the cave spring, repair to their couch of skins, and there watch the sun's slow sinking over the desert sands. And in this fading hour they first find the answer of body to body in the soul's awakening, as they melt into one; giving then an offering to the world, who, in the form and in the stature of the great leader, gave the first philosophy of life and love to the world [Zend? See 288-27, Par. 21-A, 9/25/31], coming from this union.

9. And only with the treachery of others afterward was this life in the female taken. Hence the dread of knives in one [288] and the distrust of friendships in the other [294].

10. Again we find the male [294], with a vengeance, attempting to wreck, comes as the warrior [Trojan period], though the other [288] we find remains long in the land of nirvana and awaits the coming of her other self.

11. In the courts again [France], when they were mother and son, the greater portions of the body beautiful - and the portions that had become hallowed so to each - became the system of one and the life of the other. At present we find they are again together, still in different divisions, positions or circumstances, each paying out that which has been gained or merited in planes in earth's sphere just before. In this they are again united in soul and in spirit forces, and through the joy and the pleasure of selfless service they may again know the meaning of these as given.

12. They need only remain in the future faithful one to the other, ever giving, ever retaining those joys of the relations that bring and give of self in service to others; and these bring joy, peace, and again uniting of body, soul and spirit in the next. Remain faithful, therefore, unto the end; gaining those joys through daily acts of selflessness for and with others, remembering that in these manifestations they (and all souls) become knit one with the other.

    1. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [301]. Yes, we have had the physical conditions with this body. In many respects conditions are bettered. There should be, however, physically, those applications locally in the pelvic organs for the position of the uterus and for the organs of genitation themselves. These, as we find - if the medicated packs were used, with the proper manipulative measures as to strengthen the muscular forces as hold same in position - will bring about that proper relief for the body as respecting the menstrual periods. When these are severe, the use of hot packs - especially of heated heavy sea salt - would be the greater relief for the body.

    2. Also, physically, there should be local attention to the teeth - on the right side, particularly the first lower molars; on the left side, the upper eye teeth and the first molars. These, as we find, may be treated locally; not necessarily the removal of same, if taken in time and there is sufficient of the added forces of calcium in the system for the creation of that characterization in the blood supply as to replenish or rebuild forces in same.

    3. In these, physically, we find those conditions as need attention.

    4. In the mental abilities and forces of the body - these, as we find, are capable, and there may be much added to an understanding of self and of the physical relations, as well as social, and relations with individuals - in marital and in everyday life - if those tenets of the individualities of each will be studied as in relationship to an ideal.

    5. In the study of ideal and idealism, as it may be termed, well that the ideal be outside one's self - rather than for the motives of same be as added, in any manner, to the pleasure, satisfaction, gratification, contentment, ease, or such. Rather in humbleness, drawing a comparison of self's own activities as related to the ideal as is set or held, then individualities and the application of the things of life may be gained or attained. These, then, will be as of results in an activity of an individual, or the individual, rather than the seeking for sources of ease, pleasure, gratification, self-indulgence, or such - but when these have conceived they will bring forth that love as is all inclusive; for each individual should know that all forces as are manifest in material worlds are of ONE source; all power, all time, all space, is of ONE source. THAT source should be the ideal consciousness of each and every individual. In this entity same may be approached in any activity physically or mentally that the entity would make as a portion of its experience, whether in building for the home for the loved one, in the manner of approach, entertainment, satisfaction, gratification of others rather than self's own interests - which brings for self an understanding that will surpass all medication, meditation, understanding; for in the applications of one's forces or one's talents - does one gain that insight, that consciousness of well-being, of being in accord with those forces as build for that as is a continuity of destructions and of continuity of CONSTRUCTIVE influences; for - to surpass, one builds CONSTRUCTIVELY. To bring sorrow, tears, sadness, discontent, disillusionment, is to use a force, an activity in life, without the replacement of that as makes for same.

Then, with the application of the physical forces as for the physical body, these will bring that desire of the heart - and conception may take place; for these in ITS creative forces - are the GIFTS from creation as constructive measures are builded, and ever has it been "Blessed is she whom the Lord smiles upon in a life of usefulness in propagation of species, that comes with an understanding." [Luke 1: 28?] In this the spiritual life opens; in this manner do the material affairs become eased - even as He gave, "My yoke is easy for he who contemplates and understands", for simply by taking thought (as some would, in meditation) one may not add one cubit to the stature, neither may one's hair be turned white or black, but in the APPLICATION of the thought - that consciousness held OF that divine force as makes FOR continuity of constructive life - THIS brings the activity in THAT manner in which the individual becomes the channel through which the Lord's forces - gods of the universe - the Master Himself - may MANIFEST that living water, that way, that life. For he being the vine and we as the branches, should we lord [laud?] self - when our strength of body, mind AND soul rests in Him? for He is the light of the body. If one has lost that light, or so shaded self's own influences as to make - either in the physical body or the mental body - that which is shaded from that light, one LOSES its abilities to function in the proper way and manner - whether a spiritual force, a mental force, or a physical; for all is in Him. In HIM we live and move and have our being.

    7. Keep the light before thee, knowing that, "Not MY will, but THINE, be done!"

    9. (Q) What physical exercises would be beneficial for body?

       (A) Any that is of a nature as would strengthen the organisms. These would BEST be made in accord with the MANIPULATIONS [osteopathically] as would be given for the STRENGTHENING of the organs of the system, just as it will be found necessary to use a support in the PLACEMENT, as it were, OF the organs of pelvis. This may BEST be done in accordance WITH those applications MADE by mechanical means, as would the exercises be in keeping with that being attempted to be done in and for the body.

       1. The first and foremost, and the best - KNOW SELF, and self's relation to the Maker; for this IS the beginning of wisdom, the beginning of understanding. As to how to study to do such, is to begin with the application of that which is now known as relating to such subjects, such work, such undertakings.     1. (Q) In speaking of the reading, what are those influences that would shake the knowledge of the highest influence in the life?

       1. Ambiguities or insincerities in individuals that were as teachers or leaders in a truth the entity studied, as is signified by that love of the fair - or the truth, as is seen in the experience of the entity. Illustration:

          Were [If] those that (and especially this phase of the experience of the entity) were acquainted with, or visited by, or able to be attained attunement by individuals with cosmic forces [were] to use those influences, and force an issue, without the correct or proper attunement, and such a condition known to an entity

          - or to this entity; it would become insincere, untrue, and consequently a lack of the correct application of knowledge as attained by self pertaining to such forces or influences, see? This applying in ANY of the various phases of phenomena, whether pertaining to the force of psychic phenomena or mental force.

    2. (Q) How may the entity control same?

       1. Know better that as has been given aforetime. Know that all power, or all force, is an emanation of One Spirit. TRY each, and see whether these emanations are true and in accord with that as has been given, that "My spirit bear witness with YOUR spirit as to whether the truth IS that making one free, or does such an emanation bind the mental and spiritual body; for remember, as given, the spiritual is the life; the mental is the builder. [If] Were that emanation from the spirit force [were] manifested, one that binds rather than loosens, then this - as seen - would be an incorrect or improper emanation.

    3. (Q) Where may the entity find books or information about Oriental Design?

       1. In any good library that has such, as in any Carnegie library there are many various volumes on the oriental design. As is seen, in each age there has been that which has given life to special design, that has been called in that era or that age of certain design; as Oriental, Flemish, Romans, Dutch, and the American, etc., see?

    4. (Q) Explain more fully how the entity can apply this to laws that govern the human endurance, also to the human reaction to the various laws that govern universal forces, whether applied to mechanics or psychology, whether that reaction as received by sight or that as received by reading or of speech.

       1. Again we approach this in a different angle. In an application of knowledge, the basis of the knowledge must first be considered in the mind (as the builder) as authentic. As to the test, this has just been given. Whether this applies to chemical, mechanic, art, literature, or what not, the same is the result. Whether in mathematical, astrological, or what - for these are of the same basic force; for in the first, as given, all emanation is of ONE force. The KNOWLEDGE is the ability within SELF to apply that already known, and in application there may be an attainment of more applicable knowledge concerning that individual subject, whether pertaining to art, literature, phenomena whether of the physical, material, spiritual, or psychical. All comes under the one same force, in that manner as has been outlined.

     

    1. (Q) In mind training, is there any special way that the entity could direct the study to a better advantage?

       1. Only in the application. That is, in one's mental forces, these are as the spiritual essence of an individual. Hence it is often said of a picture (especially), or of a book, or of an individual - "Wonderful - but it lacks soul! It lacks an atmosphere! It lacks a SOMETHING necessary to give LIVING action!" Then, in applying mental forces is putting self in that attunement to the spiritual forces or emanations as are constantly in action in nature in every form and manner, whether the lightning, the sea, the sky, the bird song, the flower, the steam, the electric forces, or the what. In ALL NATURE the Spirit of Creation is EMANATING! and one that attunes self in MIND or mental forces towards these BEINGS of emanation, gains knowledge in an INESTIMABLE manner, that becomes the soul, the personality, the BEING of the individual. Hence we find many an individual attained in knowledge that never attended a university or any school, except of nature!...

    1. As this takes shape in the various forms of the force that brings about that dynamic activity of each principle as is emanated from the groups, this becomes then as an individual of the nation, or period, or age, as given.

      1. This, as we see, the physical manifestation in an emblematical manner of the study of the individual entity itself. The lead as seen, the position of the entity in its mental development and the ability of others through lack of the usage of forces presented to the entity itself to keep abreast of others. Mental conditions purely. Same as we see in others as have been had by the body, the mind, of [900].

         Then this as the warning, or the physical consciousness of existing conditions that are a portion of the individual, and and the consciousness of others being able to outstrip, outdo, surpass the individual, showing how the entity must, or may, keep abreast or ahead of those surrounding itself.

   4. (Q) "I received a reading from Cayce and certain things underlined in red ink, indicating emphasis on certain points for me to learn. I strove to see the writing and almost was able to read the first line, about knowledge and power, but although the reading was right in front of me, and the red underlining indicated its importance, I just couldn't distinguish the writing."

      1. This merely the indications of the truths that the entity may gain the insight of, by the study of lessons, truths, that are given in the various readings as are received by the individual from time to time. The indicating by underlining meaning, there are truths that are gotten from time to time, the entity fails to grasp the full meaning of same, and the inability of the entity to do so lies in that of incomprehension through lack of plane of vision, and shows how the entity may gain knowledge, power, peace and aptitude by close application of the various truths as are indicated from time to time. Again we would give, as has been given before, many of these visions as come to the mind of the body, through contact of subconscious forces, with the thoughts and impressions of the inner self of the individual, should be studied through self-analysis of same. Then came to Grandmother's grave. We looked at it from behind iron fence or bars. Where has she gone? What has become of her, I asked, gazing through the bars at the grave. The voice answered. 'She has become part of the elemental forces that make up the whole harmonious Universe.' Again I asked the same question, being puzzled by the reply. This, as we see, the co-relating [correlating] of a vision obtained through study of the ideas, ideals, of an individual on given subject matter, co-related [correlated] with the subconscious force of the individual and viewed in a concrete, definite, manner, emblematical of the condition in toto as is reached by the mind of the body [900] on a given subject. Hence the voice that repeats the same to the individual three times in succession, giving a clear definite fact that may be comprehended by the mind, the body, of [900]. Just as is seen, the impression comes to the mind - What has happened to the conditions existent to a loved one? With the movement as is shown, nothing dies. Rather changing in the vision of the individual, see? See how all are connected from the first to the last?        1. Each in their sphere, and their manifestations are the spheres in which they do work.

       1. Impossible not for each to work, for each and every condition is a motion or force, and force in itself, its first element being Being - BEING, see?

   13. (Q) What relation have these words "harmonious Universe" to do with another dream [900] had months ago of a whole orchestra all playing different instruments, all dressed in white, yet all in tune and in perfect harmony?

       1. As sound is a portion of all sound, as harmonious forces are in harmony with all forces; just the same relations. Another perception, another view, another action of the same condition being presented to the mental forces of this body.

   14. (Q) Is there but one spirit force manifesting in various dimensions, yet all one force, separating into portions by virtue subsidiary force? That is, of mind and consciousness?

       1. All one force. One spirit force, one harmonious force, each varying in the degree of their ability to manifest the whole.

   15. (Q) We humans are then one with all, one with the mineral, vegetable, animal, human and spirit kingdom. We are the spirit of God, that elemental portion, the same as the whole, not yet made equal to it. Thus the hand and foot illustration in Corinthians of the New Testament. We are one with the flowers of the field, the waves of the sea, the breath of the forest, with all mankind, yet different only in the absorption or method of acquisition of the power of the whole spirit. We are that spirit not yet become equal to that spirit. The physical is real to the senses but the physical, all of it, is but the phenomena of the spirit, as are we ourselves in the flesh. Then the only real is the spirit. To see the real we must give up the conceived idea of life, of the conscious mind, and know ourselves as a portion of the Great Spirit, whose only happy peaceful end is to find power, control and knowledge in this spirit, in God.        1. This all true, yet the mental forces of few are able to comprehend same in

          its entirely, without taking some small portion or phase of same and running same to excess, for the manifestations in the consciousness of the individual are the phenomenas of life. All is Life. God is God of the Living. God is God of Force, which is of God. Now the variations as may be seen in a physical world: We have the electronic forces in the Universe (physical now we are speaking of), with the higher voltage of electricity against a lower voltage, both may become short circuited. Now all are of a one force, one working in opposition to another, each moving at a higher or lesser vibration (physical we are speaking of). The same applies in the spiritual forces. All are of one, as all are in the Mind of the Creator, all made through the Mind of the Creator, to serve in their various capacities of executing the homage, service, to the Creator. Each filling their own place. Man made to be equal to the Creator, when entering into his full heritage. Each lower kingdom made as the service for man. Man made for the service of the Creator, becoming equal to Him, or as has been presented by Liedbeter [Leadbeater, Charles Webster] in this: "Man is but a corpuscle in the Great Body of the Creator."

4. (Q) Night of Sunday, Jan. 10, while reading Papini's Life of Christ. Now I read in this book Christ's pity for the rich, (as I am not rich this didn't bother me) but his condemnation and hatred for bankers, and men who deal in money or use money as a commodity instead of engaging in a more productive or useful industry. That hit home and I have raised the same question myself when I asked "Suppose Christ had entered a brokerage concern (if one existed), instead of the shoemaking business - would it have made any difference?" The answer in my mind has always been "No" - the temptations of the flesh are the same - only through knowledge and understanding may we gain a consciousness of the Spiritual Purpose and until this consciousness is gained the type of business, etc., is of little consequence. But Papini's radical statements worried me so I turned in prayer to my Father and asked for clarification of his version of the Christ life as it pertains to ours to-day - to mine. The answer came clear and sure in the Voice: "MODIFY IT."

   1. In this there is presented to this entity those conditions that must be

studied well, and the answer in same must ever come from within. As is seen in that as was read by the entity, THAT MAN'S concept of conditions presented by the Master. In the reason of self concerning same, there is felt self- condemnation on account of the conditions under which self labors. In the answer as is heard in prayer, the entity finds that answer for self, in that not that conditions are turned in the way to meet and to explain away self's position, but knowing that, as has been given, "All force is of one force."    1. This as a statement. Not a dream, not a vision.

(Q) In other words, it is my choice to have or not to have a child, yet despite that freedom of will to use the forces of the Creator stored within myself as I see fit, either yea or nay, I have nothing to do with the actual work done by that force that causes creation. I set the force in motion, just as I do when I set it in motion along other lines (formation of habit, memory, consciousness).

(Q) (Continuing) Then the power that acts to create follows the line of impulse given, (in its physical) and creates of an energy stored in a physical body another physical body, projecting therein an individual portion of itself, that the One embraces. How does this individual consciousness - this spiritually stored subconscious energy become part of that division of a physical body that when under proper conditions transforms itself into another body and phenomenized form, inheriting its qualities of the channel used (in parents), and also the entity of awareness awaiting to become part of this 3 dimensional phenomenized activity. How does this latter become apart of the newly born baby?

   1. That the spiritual force and its propagation. Its becoming a part is as may be described in two ways. Just as a drop of water from the ocean is of all the component part of the ocean, yet is not the ocean when separated, see? Just as this stored energy used or manifested by man, or by the propagation of species, becomes a part by its atomic force separating, giving then a channel through which the spirit force is manifested, or as is seen, all force in the physical world is a channel through which the divine forces manifest to man who has reached that stage of consciousness of such manifested force in a material world, or each and every consciousness becoming to that consciousness of a higher force manifesting, sees, knows, through such channels the force of the created energy, or of God, is manifested, and this action, as has been given. Often there are those conditions which to the finite mind [it] is incapable of grasping, yet we see those manifestations in actions, and such is that as is taking place when stored energy of one creative force gives to another energy that ability to create, propagate, within itself that which is called the preservation of the species throughout the material plane.

5. (Q) Explain in the light of inheritance and evolution, in line with that I am now

   writing on that subject.

   1. That's just given. Follow that line - for there may be much said as respecting this condition, for in this force and in this manifestation of the material world, and of the creative energy as is manifested, is the stumbling block to many peoples, for evolution is as of a fact in the mind of the creative energy, and the will of the energy creating is of the higher forces, same as the will of the individual in the higher species, or as in man in propagating species, yet there may be those physical conditions as existing which prevent such propagation, see? with the will manifested correctly, yet there may exist that physical condition within the body which prevents such conditions taking place, yet the species may be propagated through that variation, and the variation or the acceptance of the condition is the proof of the heredity, of the environmental conditions, and not a disproval of the spirit forces as manifesting in the material world, for the same germinate (?) [germinative] condition exists in the species of the higher creation as of the lower creation, for the motive energy is from the divine, and is to that consciousness as has attained to that consciousness of the higher dimension, or of the higher evolution of mind within species as to see that this condition existing is the manifestation, literal, spiritual, physical being of the manifestation of the divine forces in the material world.

This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce, this 17th day of March, 1938.

1. In giving a mental and spiritual reading for this entity, and in giving that as may be helpful in the entity's holding to the faith which has been and must be the portion of each entity or soul - much of that which is of a theosophical, philosophical and theological nature must be touched upon. For it is upon such a basis that all entities, all souls in their study must draw for their strength, their faith, their hope.

2. There are in the experience of each entity, and in this entity especially, those mental and spiritual activities that are often taken for granted, without considering the source - or without being justified by an individual experience as to the truth, or having self-conviction within as respecting same.

3. This is what is so oft termed "blind faith". But the individual experience concerning the source, the reason for the conviction, has been and is the promise - in the purpose of the Christ's entering into the earth, and the promises that are individual - made through and during His material ministry. 7. The SOUL is that which is the image of the Maker, and only in patience - as the Christ gave - may ye indeed become aware OF thy soul's activity; through its longings, through its convictions, through its experience into the realms of the spiritual undertakings.

9. Then how do they apply in thyself?

10. As ye have been taught, as ye are aware, The Godhead is the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. Just as in thyself - as the pattern - the body, the mind, the soul. They are one, just as the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit are one. They each functioning in coordination or cooperation as one with another become as thy own experiences in a material world, the awareness of the consciousness of that God-force, that Spirit abiding within.

11. Then, there has been given, there has been shown the way that the Father is mindful of His children; that these as they appear in the earth - yea, thyself - are a portion of His manifestation. Not as an indefinite force, not as an unconcrete thing, not as just a mist, but just as is manifested not only in the Christ but as is manifested in thee - thy desires to do right, thy desires that there be the manifesting of love, of patience, of hope, of longsuffering, of brotherly-kindness, of doing good even when others speak unkindly, when others revile thee, when others say those things that in thy physical consciousness find resentment.

12. But as He manifests - as a portion of that Godhead that is represented in thee, as IN thy Mind - then ye become aware that ye are INDEED a child of the living God, and are in materiality for those purposes of manifesting those very things that are the fruits of the Spirit in thy dealings with thy fellow man.

13. For as ye measure to thy fellow man it is measured to thee again. This is an UNCHANGEABLE law! For as ye ask for forgiveness, only in those measures in which ye forgive may ye be forgiven. For are ye not seeking to be one with Him? Then only AS ye forgive may ye BE forgiven! Only AS ye show forth love may love be shown forth to thee! Ye cannot rise above that as ye measure, that as ye live. For as the expression of life IS the manifestation of that love, then in the measure as it metes so is it measured to thee.

14. Know that as the Mind is represented by the Christ-Consciousness, it is the Builder, it is the Way, it is the Truth, it is the Light; that is, through the manner in which the Mind is held.

15. Not that it denies, not that it rejects, but that it is MADE as one with the purposes He, thy Lord, thy Christ, thy God, thy holy self, would have it be.

16. Not to the glorifying of the body. For even as He, thy Lord gave, "I can of myself do nothing - it is as the Father worketh in and through me."

17. Then it is as the body, the mind, the spirit - the motivating forces - coordinant as one with another, WITH the divine law. Ye know the law. What is the law?

18. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, thy mind, thy body; thy neighbor as thyself." This as He gave is the whole law. There is none above that. And ye may, as He has promised, become aware in thy own consciousness of His abiding presence, by the awarenesses that may come to thee as ye meditate, as ye pray from day to day.

19. Ask and He will give. For as ye walk, as ye talk with Him, ye become aware of His presence abiding with thee.

20. For this purpose ye came into this experience; that ye might GLORIFY that consciousness, that awareness of His presence, of His Spirit abiding with thee.

21. Ye give manifestations of same in the manner, in the way in which ye measure that love to others about thee day by day.

22. This do, and ye will know the truth - the truth shall indeed make you free. Not condemning, not finding fault here nor there at any of the experiences; knowing that God is, and that ye must, that ye WILL, that ye MAY - and it is the glorious opportunity, the glorious promise to just be able to be kind, to be gentle, to be patient with thy fellow man day by day!

23. And the ASSURANCE comes within thy own self, for His promise is to meet thee in the tabernacle of thy own conscience. For as Jesus said, "Lo, the kingdom of heaven is within YOU!"

While the entity has held and does hold to a great many of the tenets of teachers, - as respecting all phases of urges that arise in the experience of an individual entity, - we find that the very manner in which the entity in this present experience has USED all such has made the ordinary terms of astrological, numerological or otherwise influences almost null and void.

4. The entity is a seeker after truth, knowledge - and there is a difference in the two! As may be analyzed or determined, as one studies such, when one has analyzed all such urges, they are so oft found to be as shadows, and the grasping after same has become such as to cause them to disappear in the sunlight of truth.

5. For, no urge of any nature surpasses the birthright of each soul in a material experience.

    1. Each soul, - as it manifests in the earth, - is body, mind and spirit; just as there is in the Godhead the God the father, God the mind, God the holy spirit. These, - as Father, Son and Holy Ghost, - are one. These terms of expression are used in this three-dimensional world. For, the earth-consciousness rarely conceives of that which may not be of a three-dimensional nature. The fourth and fifth dimensions may be spoken of, but as to their proofs - to most, and even to this entity at times - these are hazy.

    2. Yet, as one finds self as a shadow, or as a representative of that indicated in the eternal, - one may ask, what is the source of this association or connection?

    3. It is time, space and patience that bridges that distance. These are man's concept of the spirit of God manifesting to the three-dimensional consciousness.

    4. Hence the records of each entity are recorded upon time and space, and in patience may be interpreted to the entity; to be used constructively, not as something of which to boast or to make short cuts. 1. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [4047].

2. In giving the interpretation of the records, and interpreting them in such a manner that the entity may apply the suggestions in the experience of the present life, this we would do with the desire that there be pointed out to the entity both virtues and vices in the entity; that there may be the recognition that there is daily set before thee good and evil, life and death, and that the entity, as an entity, must choose.

3. It is evident that there is the inclination, from the manner of reasoning of the entity, to judge by material accomplishments. This should not be so. For it is in Him that ye are given life, that ye live and move and have thy being. Thus, is the purpose in an experience in the earth only to be born, to live three score and ten years and pass out? or is it as a day, as a moment in eternity?

4. Life then is purposeful. What is life? It is a manifestation of a soul. Remember that self is body, mind and soul. As the soul would know, does know, it is the gift of the Creator, the Maker. The purpose in life, then, is not the gratifying of appetites nor of any selfish desires, but it is that the entity, the soul, may make the earth, where the entity finds its consciousness, a better place in which to live.

5. That phase of the entity's experience in the present as a chemical engineer, as an instructor, as a director, as an aid to many groups, many individuals furnishes the entity an opportunity, if there is not lost sight of the fact that what ye do shall be to the glory of thy Maker and not of self or of any particular group. The benefits that may be derived should be for the common good of all and not for the gratifying of any emotion of the body, or even of the mind - unless mind is in accord with the divine.

6. Analyze these. These are truths, and truth is truth wherever ye find it. To be sure it must find a response within self, else to the individual it is a theory or an idea. Yet that just given the entity will find, if it searches itself and analyzes its purposes, its ideals, its hopes, it doubts, its fears. And ye can do something about it! For know that ye are in the present experience, in the present environ, in the present years of thy activity more productive, more far-reaching in the influence ye have, in the opportunity that ye will have for making the earth a better place to live in for those to come. And remember you'll be back again! What do you want it to look like? You have a greater opportunity at the present time than you will have at any other period of this particular sojourn. So you'd better be up and doing, keeping self in accord with God's laws. For remember, God is not mocked and whatsoever a man soweth that must he also reap, spiritually, mentally and materially. For the law of the Lord is perfect. It will convert the soul if ye seek to know that law in thy experience.

12. As to the appearances in the earth, all will not be indicated but these that ye may know from whence ye came and whither ye go. For thy pattern is set and ye are a free-willed soul. Ye may either use or abuse the privileges given to thee. From whence? The source of all life, and life in every form - whether it be in the vapor, the chemical motivative force as accredited to the vegetable, mineral or even the animal kingdom - is of one source, God. 1. EC: We have the entity and those relations with the universal forces as are latent and exhibited in the present earth's plane.

2. In entering the earth's plane - either in the present experience or others - let it be understood that the will's force plays the greater part in the development or retarding of an entity through the earth's experience; for in the earthly experience will force is manifest; in other spheres' experience that of the influence as is builded and as is innate is the ruling force or passion of that experience. Hence the variations there may be in an influence of one entering the earth's plane under such influences, even as this entity - who has the ruling force in that of Uranus, with Neptune and of Jupiter. Jupiter forces enlivened with those of Mercury brings, then, in this particular experience those influences that are of the exceptional nature, either as applied to urges innate or will's forces as combative or correlative with the influence of the entity's urges.

3. In this, then, we find one of exceptional mental abilities; yet - as understood by others - many belittle the entity for not applying that known and understood by the entity.

4. One that finds within self that constant urge to delve deeper into the impelling forces of good and evil, or one away from development and that toward development. This meaning that an entity in the first cause is a portion of the universal whole; hence has its only - and wholly its own - peculiar

niche to fill in that universe. That carried in the plane of the first cause or universal energy called God is at an at-oneness with the first cause in the way of self's own purpose, irrespective of others - or the first cause is away FROM that fulfillment of that individual place each entity must fill. Then, reasoning within self, the entity finds self at variance with others' opinion of self and self's own opinion of self. Hence there come, then, many combative influences in the life. Especially have these come since the influence of Uranus with that of Mars and Saturn in the last five years, which have brought much of these unstable, unsatisfactory, undevisable plans and conditions within the life of the entity. That influence then in Jupiter having been the stabilizing influence. There will be seen that in the present year, with the benevolent influence of Jupiter with Venus and Neptune, these will be turned into channels that, with will's forces applied in that direction of making self WITH the at-oneness of the universal forces, will bring power of mind, body, and of the entity or soul itself towards that of the up- building, rather than of destructive forces within the life of the entity….

Keep self well balanced in will's application towards such, that there may not come unstableness in the application of the laws pertaining to occult science or occult- ism, psychic phenomena or psychic influence; for while these are the ruling powers in an entity's experience, these may be applied to one's own undoing unless kept in the way that the whole is viewed by any application, rather than a portion; for each individual, every entity, has its influence, and is the sum total of its experiences as reflected by ITS (the entity's) concept of the first cause. Get that!

2. One that is especially interested in architectural influences in the lives of individuals, as well as architectural building for their benefit to individuals.

3. One that loves the outdoors rather than being shut up.

4. One that dislikes disloyalty in any form.

5. One that adheres close to the truth as understood by self, and rarely does the entity exaggerate a truth or an untruth.

6. As to the appearances, we find these all have their influence - for they are as but one life….

1. Then, first find self in that way of making an application of the truths as set forth in Him, for in Him is the light and the light is the light of the world, shining into dark places; for He came into the world that man might know there was an advocate with the Father, the Creative Energy, and that through that faith, that hope, that applying of self in that manner, in that service to others, the closest relationship come with the Energy, the Father. Ready for questions.

2. (Q) What line of work should the body go into at the present to best prepare him for the other work?

   (A) The study of self and of self's relationship to the creative energies as they apply to man, or the study of phenomena in all of its phases. Through same comes power, understanding, abilities to meet the conditions as they arise that are called material. Start! Begin! Commence!

This psychic reading was given by Edgar Cayce at his home, on the 16th day of June, 1933, before the Second Annual Congress of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., in accordance with request by those present.

P R E S E N T

Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. And approximately thirty-five other people attending the Congress.

1. GC: You will give at this time a comprehensive discourse on reincarnation. If the soul returns to the earth through a succession of appearances, you will explain why this is necessary or desirable and will clarify through explanation the laws governing such returns. You will answer the questions which will be asked on this subject.

2. EC: Yes. In giving even an approach to the subject sought here, it is well that there be given some things that may be accepted as standards from which conclusions - or where parallels - may be drawn, that there may be gathered in the minds of those who would approach same some understanding, some concrete examples, that may be applied in their own individual experience.

3. Each soul that enters, then, must have had an impetus from some beginning that is of the Creative Energy, or of a first cause.

4. What, then, was - or is - the first cause; for if there be law pertaining to the first cause it must be an unchangeable law, and is - IS - as "I AM that I am!" For this is the basis from which one would reason:

5. The first cause was, that the created would be the companion for the Creator; that it, the creature, would - through its manifestations in the activity of that given unto the creature - show itself to be not only worthy of, but companionable to, the Creator.

6. Hence, every form of life that man sees in a material world is an essence or manifestation of the Creator; not the Creator, but a manifestation of a first cause - and in its own sphere, its own consciousness of its activity in that plane or sphere.

7. Hence, as man in this material world passes through, there are the manifestations of the attributes that the consciousness attributes to, or finds coinciding with, that activity which is manifested; hence becomes then as the very principle of the law that would govern an entrance into a manifestation.

8. Then a soul, the offspring of a Creator, entering into a consciousness that became a manifestation in any plane or sphere of activity, given that free-will for its use of those abilities, qualities, conditions in its experience, demonstrates, manifests, shows forth, that it reflects in its activity towards that first cause.

9. Hence in the various spheres that man sees (that are demonstrated, manifested, in and before self) even in a material world, all forces, all activities, are a manifestation. Then, that which would be the companionable, the at- oneness with, the ability to be one with, becomes necessary for the demonstration or manifestation of those attributes in and through all force, all demonstration, in a sphere.

10. Because an atom, a matter, a form, is changed does not mean that the essence, the source or the spirit of it has changed; only in its form of manifestation, and NOT in its relation with the first cause. That man reaches that consciousness in the material plane of being aware of what he does about or with the consciousness of the knowledge, the intelligence, the first cause, makes or produces that which is known as the entering into the first cause, principles, basis, or the essences, that there may be demonstrated in that manifested that which gains for the soul, for the entity, that which would make the soul an acceptable companion to the Creative Force, Creative Influence. See?

11. As to how, where, when, and what produces the entrance into a material manifestation of an entity, a soul:

12. In the beginning was that which set in motion that which is seen in manifested form with the laws governing same. The inability of destroying matter, the ability of each force, each source of power or contact - as it meets in its various forms, produces that which is a manifestation in a particular sphere. This may be seen in those elements used in the various manifested ways of preparing for man, in many ways, those things that bespeak of the laws that govern man's relationship to the first cause, or God.

13. Then, this is the principle:

14. Like begets like. Those things that are positive and negative forces combine to form in a different source, or different manifestation, the combinations of which each element, each first principle manifested, has gained from its associations - in its activities - that which has been brought to bear by self or that about it, to produce that manifestation.

15. Hence man, the crowning of all manifestations in a material world - a causation world, finds self as the cause and the product of that he (man), with those abilities given, has been able to produce, or demonstrate, or manifest from that he (the soul) has gained, does gain, in the transition, the change, the going toward that (and being of that) from which he came.

16. Periods, times, places: That which is builded, each in its place, each in its time.

17. This is shown to man in the elemental world about him. Man's consciousness of that about him is gained through that he, man, does about the knowledge of that he is, as in relation to that from which he came and towards which he is going.

18. Hence, in man's analysis and understanding of himself, it is as well to know from whence he came as to know whither he is going.

20. (Q) What is meant by inequality of experience? Is it a strong argument for reincarnation?

    1. Considering that which has just been presented, isn't it the same argument?

21. (Q) Is experience limited to this earth plane?

    1. As each entity, each soul, in the various consciousnesses, passes from one to another, it - the soul - becomes conscious of that about self in that sphere

       - to which it, the entity, the soul attains in a materially manifested way or manner.

       Hence the entity develops THROUGH the varied spheres of the earth and its solar system, and the companions of varied experiences in that solar system, or spheres of development or activity; as in some ways accredited correctly to the planetary influences in an experience. The entity develops THROUGH those varied spheres.

       Hence the sun, the moon, the stars, the position in the heavens or in all of the hosts of the solar systems that the earth occupies - all have their influence in the same manner (this is a very crude illustration, but very demonstrative) that the effect of a large amount of any element would attract a compass. Drawn to!

       Why? Because of the influence of which the mind element of a soul, an entity, has become conscious!

       A soul, an entity, is as real as a physical entity, and is as subject to laws as the physical body as subject to the laws in a material world and the elements thereof!

       Does fire burn the soul or the physical body?

       Yet, self may cast self into a fire element by doing that the soul knows to be wrong!

       What would make a wrong and a right? A comparison of that the soul knows its consciousness to be in accord or contrarywise with, in relation to that which gave it existence.

22. (Q) Are not transferred memories misappropriated by individuals and considered to be personal experiences?

    1. Personal experiences have their influence upon the inner soul, while disincarnate entities (that may be earth-bound, or that may be heaven-bound) may influence the thought of an entity or a mind.

       But, who gives the law to have an element to influence, whether from self or from others? That same as from the beginning. The WILL of the soul that it may be one with the first cause.

       In the material, the mental, and the spiritual experience of many souls, many entities, it has been found that there BE those influences that DO have their effect upon the thought of those that would do this or that. Who gives it? Self! Just as it is when an entity, a body, fills its mind (mentally, materially) with those experiences that bespeak of those things that add to the carnal forces of an experience. Just so does the mind become the builder throughout. And the mental mind, or physical mind, becomes CARNALLY directed!

       The mind is the builder ever, whether in the spirit or in the flesh. If one's mind is filled with those things that bespeak of the spirit, that one becomes spiritual- minded.

       As we may find in a material world: Envy, strife, selfishness, greediness, avarice, are the children of MAN! Longsuffering, kindness, brotherly love, good deeds, are the children of the spirit of light.

       Choose ye (as it has ever been given) whom ye will serve.

       This is not beggaring the question! As individuals become abased, or possessed, are their thoughts guided by those in the borderland? Certainly! If allowed to be!

       But he that looks within is higher, for the spirit knoweth the Spirit of its Maker

       - and the children of same are as given. And, "My Spirit beareth witness with thy spirit," saith He that giveth life!

       What IS Life? A manifestation of the first cause - God!

23. (Q) Explain, in the light of reincarnation, the cycle of development towards maturity in individuals.

    1. As an individual in any experience, in any period, uses that of which it (the soul or entity) is conscious in relation to the laws of the Creative Forces, so does that soul, that entity, develop towards - what? A companionship with the Creative influence!

       Hence karma, to those disobeying - by making for self that which would be as the towers of Babel, or as the city of Gomorrah, or as the fleshpots of Egypt, or as the caring for those influences in the experience that satisfy or gratify self without thought of the effect upon that which it has in its own relation to the first cause! Hence to many this becomes as the stumblingblock.

       It is as was given by Him, "I am the way. No man approaches the Father but by me." But, does a soul crucify the flesh even as He, when it finds within itself that it must work out its own salvation in a material world, by entering and re- entering that there may be made manifest that consciousness in the soul that would make it a companion with the Creator?

       Rather is the law of forgiveness made of effect in thine experience, through Him that would stand in thy stead; for He is the way, that light ever ready to aid when there is the call upon - and the trust of the soul in - that first cause!

       Has it not been given that there IS an influence in the mind, the thought of man, from the outside? Then, would those that have lost their way become the guides and both fall in the ditch? or would the soul trust in the Way, and the Light, and seek in that way that there may be shown the light?

       What caused the first influences in the earth that brought selfishness? The desire to be as gods, in that rebellion became the order of the mental forces in the soul; and sin entered.

24. (Q) What is the strongest argument against reincarnation?

    1. That there is the law of cause and effect in MATERIAL things. But the strongest argument against reincarnation is also, turned over, the strongest argument for it; as in ANY principle, when reduced to its essence. For the LAW is set - and it happens! though a soul may will itself NEVER to reincarnate, but must burn and burn and burn - or suffer and suffer and suffer! For, the heaven and hell is built by the soul! The companionship in God is being one with Him; and the gift of God is being conscious of being one with Him, yet apart from Him - or one with, yet apart from, the Whole.

25. (Q) What is the strongest argument for reincarnation?

    1. Just as given. Just turn it over; or, as we have outlined.

This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce, this 24th day of October, 1933, in accordance with request made by those present.

1. GC: If the "forces" Lamech, Confucius, Tamah, Halaliel, Hebe, Ra, Ra-Ta, John are present, we seek the answer to the following question, as given: How did the influence known as Spirit move upon the various matters that came into existence? And how did the influence manifest itself upon the beings that separated into the varied kingdoms that inhabit such as the earth? You will please also give the next question.

2. EC: Yes. That there may be as little confusion as possible in the minds of those present, as to the source of that which may be given through the answering of the question that has been proposed, let each present accept THIS as a fact for the present, and as each period is given for the development of force and power in and through the spiritual guidance each individual present may fit in his own concept of how, why, when there was a change in the spiritual (or spirit) influence in the earth; for this, with its environs, is that sphere that we are to deal with:

The individuals named were known as individuals and personalities in the earth's sphere, and had (and have) an influence upon the thoughts of man; hence they (the influence they represent) are capable of guiding the information in such a manner as may be comprehendable to those that would seek to know the truth; that may be presented, and that may be demonstrable (that's a very good word!) in individual lives. Hence we each may be assured, by the presence of the beloved disciple, that our own Christian concept will have its place throughout the discussion.

4. The question: How did spirit move upon matter as to bring into existence that which POSSESSES a body and a spirit? This we see in the elementals, as we consider matter in its gaseous form with all the powers of the divisions to which it (the gas) is subject under the varied conditions that may exist. For, the matter (in its elemental form) was moved upon by the Spirit of God and became that which partook (and partakes) of all force and influence in the sphere of activity to which IT (the element) had been (and has been) delegated by the Infinite Spirit that possesses all those forces or influences that may be seen in all realms of activity, from the lowest unto infinitum. Hence we see all become impregnated with the spirit of the Creator; hence are of the one source or power.

5. Why, then, did there come that which is known in the earth as a three- dimensional phase of existence with a five-consciousness of its existence? that there in spirit possesses body, form and activity, in spirit, and moving upon the activity of self brings into being that which was to be the companionship with that spirit?

6. For, all laws (loves) that are applicable in a material world must find their inception, their beginning, in the source of the BEGINNINGS of activity in a given sphere.

7. Among those spirits that include all that ever was, that ever will be, were those that in spirit rebelled against that law of love; hence turned in self upon self, hence separating self from that first companionship.

8. Hence that all in this form might return, or that there might not be continual warfare in this realm of peace, happiness, glory (Words are inadequate to describe the presence of the Most High. For as given, the most glorious in the finite mind is but a SHADOW; and it doth not appear as to what manner or form or bodies with which we do appear before, or in the presence of, His glory sublime - divine), but in order that there might be the return of every soul bearing the imprint of his image in Spirit (and body), there came first those in the earth as thought forms that were able to partake of that about them; and so absorb them, much as we see in the lower forms of material manifestations in life, and MOVED by the spirit to become that they found or absorbed in their being. Hence we see how that the entering of the spirit into matter in the earth was both good and bad. And we find that, as given in the records, each soul became conscious of a relationship to an outside influence or spirit as it, individually, personally, applied those influences in the activities that were about it. How could there become, then, other than sun worshippers? But rather some became worshippers of that the sun produced, rather than of that which produced the sun: There's a difference! THAT'S the difference between Spiritualism and Spiritism; Spirit-u-u- u-al-ism, and Spiritism.

9. Spiritism, then, is that which acknowledges, that acts, that comprehends, the

   source of the activity.

10. Spiritualism is that which comprehends rather only the result, than the source.

11. The forces of spirit activity, then, become all those that are recognized as the elemental laws, or what?

12. First, self-perpetuation or preservation; perpetuation through the second law of its creation, through its elements that partake of the life spirit that creates or forms the body itself. Hence we have the first three laws in the activity of spirit in matter in the earth:

13. Preservation of self; perseverance in perpetuation of self, by impregnation of matter to become a reproduction of itself; and - the like begets like!
