Ce texte datant de la IIIè Dynastie d'Ur raconte le voyage du dieu de cette cité, Nanna/Sîn (le dieu-lune). Il décide donc de partir d'Ur, pour rendre visite à son père Enlil et à sa mère Ninlil dans leur cité, Nippur. Il se fait construire un somptueux bateau, le charge de présents destinés à ses parents, puis il embarque. Il est successivement arrêté à Enegi, Larsa, Uruk, Shuruppak et Tummal, où les trésors qu'il transporte attisent la convoitise des sanctuaires locaux, mais il continue son chemin jusqu'à Nippur. Arrivé là, il entre dans le temple de son père, l'Ekur, et lui fait ses offrandes. Son père, heureux de cette visite et de ces présents, invite alors son fils à un grand banquet. 

Nanna profite de l'occasion pour remercier son père de ses bienfaits, et lui demander de faire des bienfaits pour sa ville, Ur. Enlil ne peut qu'accepter, et accorde à Ur la prospérité. On voit bien que ce texte a aussi des visées politiques, puisqu'il montre qu'Ur est une ville aimée des dieux, et que donc ses rois sont biens ceux qui doivent dominer la Mésopotamie.

At the house of Enlil, ......, Nanna-Suen made the offerings. Enlil, rejoicing over the offerings, offered bread to Suen, his son.

319-325. Enlil rejoiced over Suen and spoke kindly: "Give sweet cakes to my little fellow who eats sweet cakes. Give sweet cakes to my Nanna who loves eating sweet cakes. Bring out from the E-kur the bread allotment and first quality bread for him. Pour out for him the finest beer, my pure ....... May the ...... of the towering tilimda vessels, standing on the ground, ....... Order pure sweet cake, syrup, crescent (?) cake and clear water for him."

326-330. Suen replied to his father who begot him: "Father who begot me, I am indeed satisfied with what you have given me to eat. O Great Mountain, father who begot me, I am indeed satisfied with what you have given me to drink. Wherever you lift your eyes, there is kingship. O Enlil, your abundance is ......."

331-339. "Give to me, Enlil, give to me -- I want to set off for Urim! In the river give me the carp-flood -- I want to set off for Urim! In the fields give me speckled barley -- I want to set off for Urim! In the marshes give me kuda carp and suhur carp -- I want to set off for Urim!
